The program is designed to provide an opportunity for individuals who are interested in becoming teachers to gain practical experience and to prepare for a successful career in education.

Apprentices shall be paid a progressively increasing hourly wage following the Roanoke City Public School classified pay scale Grade 9 $16.6224.11based on experience). Apprentices will be placed on the classified pay scale based on relevant years of experience.
Apprentices will sign a stay agreement to teach at least one year after the successful completion of the teacher apprenticeship program.
Work Environment:
Primarily controlled temperature and clean classroom environment. Exposure to outside elements may occur during transitions field trips and recess.
