Job Description

JOB LOCATION: Head Start programs located at the Sunbury Childrens Center 600 Arch Street Sunbury PA 17801.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Nutrition Aide / Custodian will report directly to the Regional Team Supervisor and in their absence to the Head Start Programs Manager.

JOB DEFINITION: The Nutrition Aide / Custodian will be responsible for the pickup or accepting the food for the lunchtime meal for programs at the Sunbury Childrens Center for helping to serve food cleaning up of meals and assistance on maintaining a clean facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Shop for breakfast/snack groceries and other items needed in the classroom.
  2. Pick up transport and/or accept the food for the programs located at the Sunbury Childrens Center. Keep food warm or cold until time of serving.
  3. Help to serve food to the children parent volunteers and CSIU staff.
  4. Clean up after the meals wash any dishes or containers prepare containers to send back to the district building.
  5. General center cleanup e.g. sweep floors empty trash clean bathroom fill Clorox bottles mop floors scour sinks clean mirrors clean garbage cans etc.
  6. Return pots and any utensils to the school district if necessary.
  7. Order paper products from office at least two weeks before items are needed. Keep a running inventory of supplies and store supplies neatly in cupboards closets and/or shelves.
  8. Post one copy of the school age and early childhood menu in the Center review one copy and send to the Food and Education Programs Administrative Assistant for any revisions.
  9. Nutrition Aide/Custodian will be notified of any revisions to the lunch menu and will be responsible for seeing that corrections/additions are made.
  10. Send a copy of the menu at the end of each month to the Food and Education Programs Administrative Assistant with any substitutions or revisions recorded.
  11. Follow all Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and regulations.
  12. Follow all ServSafe guidelines and regulations.
  13. Maintain Safe Serve certification and follow guidelines and regulations from the Department of Ag.
  14. Maintain record keeping in regard to the van mileage and upkeep (gas inspection maintenance requests etc.
  15. Maintain a current physical on a biennial schedule.

NONESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or designee.

EDUCATION SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Knowledge of CACFP guidelines preferred.
  • Must have an interest in and concern for children and their families.
  • Must have a willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and practice good sanitary procedures.
  • Must have ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues coworkers community agency personnel and students/trainees.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current approved Act 34 (PA State Police) Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015.
  • Current approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three 3 hours training every five 5 years.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS: Attend and make use of appropriate training as requested by immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to serve food to children and adults in a specified time period.
  • Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time occasional walking standing (as necessary) and strength and ability to lift insulated carriers packed with lunch foods (approx. 50 lbs..
  • Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard calculator) eyehand coordination (office equipment etc..
  • AudioVisual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
  • Is able to move throughout all buildings floors and grounds.
  • Worksite Environment: Primarily indoorsoffice setting with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
  • Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations. Demonstrates independent judgment discretion and is able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to various work site locations and meetings as needed.

TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is parttime nonexempt position and follows the Head Start schoolyear schedule. This position cannot exceed 29 hours per week or in combination with any additional CSIU parttime positions.
  • Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.

CSIU PROPERTY AND CONFIDENTIALITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. All property including intellectual property materials equipment or actual products and services developed or accrued as part of the job duties and responsibilities listed above is the property of the CSIU. It may not be used for personal profit or gain and will be relinquished to the CSIU upon termination of employment from the CSIU.
  2. The person employed in this position shall maintain confidentiality with regard to the personal and private information about clients and coworkers programs and services and any other proprietary information accrued as a result of CSIU employment or as required by state or federal laws and regulations.
  3. The person employed in this position must adhere to all requirements identified in the code of professionalism entitled Ambassadors Are Professionals Too and CSIU Administrative Regulation 317AR1 CSIU Service Standards.
