Reporting to the Director of Operations the incumbent will be responsible for supervising the manufacturing of various components to ensure compliance with technical drawings client specifications and applicable standards in accordance with SGS procedures. They will also be responsible for training and supervising new inspectors as well as reviewing and signing reports.
The incumbent will perform various tasks related to the supervision of manufacturing processes such as progress reports witness testing welding inspections dimensional inspections preshipment inspections and short medium and longterm loading inspections.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform tasks as specified by the supervisor and/or department coordinator;
- Train and supervise new inspectors;
- Review and sign reports;
- Provide technical guidance to other inspectors;
- Identify and analyse client needs;
- Plan and prepare the work to be carried out onsite at the clients location (documents equipment);
- Ensure all necessary equipment is in good working condition and that calibration is up to date;
- Consult with clients and/or suppliers to obtain the information required to carry out the work;
- Coordinate actions with the client and/or supplier in relation to the manufacturers project schedule;
- Ensure that onsite work performed at the clients location is in line with the scope of work completed on time and carried out professionally with meticulous attention to detail in order to deliver excellent service;
- Review quality plans provided by manufacturers and their subcontractors.
- Review purchase orders intended for suppliers;
- Review technical specifications;
- Monitor and verify the status of required project documentation;
- Review test reports;
- Verify the implementation of quality plans and applicable procedures;
- Ensure manufacturing compliance with drawings and technical specifications;
- Perform visual and dimensional welding inspections according to the criteria specified in the quotation (based on certifications);
- Conduct nondestructive testing in accordance with the criteria specified in the quotation (based on certifications);
- Draft nondestructive testing procedures based on methods developed in collaboration with client stakeholders (R&D) (based on certifications).
- Verify actual work progress;
- Communicate with the client at the request of the manager and/or supervisor;
- Complete the required quality forms related to monitoring or inspection activities;
- Ensure that suppliers produce a nonconformance report and send it to the client if a nonconformance is identified;
- Inform the client if a nonconformance needs to be identified at a worksite;
- Prepare nonconformance reports and forward them to the manufacturer when a nonconformance is identified;
- Track and manage nonconformities and exemption requests;
- Participate in plant meetings when manufacturing quality is on the agenda;
- Attend manufacturing and assembly tests;
- Prepare clear and concise reports within the required timeframe (usually within 24 hours of completion);
- Perform administrative tasks such as data entry filing photocopying documents and issuing certificates as well as carry out ad hoc projects;
- Assume the responsibilities of a CWB Inspection Supervisor (if certified);
- Act as project lead for ad hoc projects as needed;
- Review and sign inspection reports or certificates;
- For specific projects: Coordinate and support the resources under your responsibility.
Qualifications :
PROFILE
- Education: Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or metallurgy or a college diploma combined with significant and relevant experience may be considered equivalent;
- Experience: More than 10 years of supervisory experience in a plant;
REQUIRED SKILLS
- W178.2 Qualification of Welding Inspectors Level 2 or 3
- The following skills are considered important assets: Knowledge of turbinealternator group fabrication knowledge of machining experience in managing and coordinating multidisciplinary teams certification as a NACE coating inspector qualification in nondestructive testing ASME certification (National Board authorized inspector authorized inspector supervisor) and/or API certification 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector 570 Piping Inspector or 936 Refractory Materials Inspector);
- Ability to train and provide technical advice to other inspectors;
- Knowledge of material treatment techniques;
- Must be able to read understand and follow work instructions safely accurately and promptly.
- The candidate must be proficient in using various computer software (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fastpaced and highly professional environment.
- Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition in French and English.
- Ability to work well with others and independently.
- Proven time management skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform well under pressure.
- Extended work hours and shifts may be required occasionally.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client sites may be required from time to time.
