JOB TITLE: Facilitator Assistive Technology

REPORTS TO:Special Education Technology Coordinator

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE:AI 2

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The job of Assistive Technology Facilitator is done for the purpose/s of supporting the instructional process with specific responsibilities for delivering assistive technology services and devices to students receiving special education; consulting evaluating modeling and training staff parents and students on assistive technology and technology supports; maintaining equipment in a safe and functional operating condition; resolving immediate operational concerns; and researching new equipment technologies and software regularly monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the assistive technology and strategies to ensure students with disabilities have access to a free and appropriate public education in their least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Required:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited university
  • Previous experience and/or education in the field of communication disabilities
  • Five years job related experience

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited university
  • Two years of assistive technology team training.
  • Valid Texas license for SpeechLanguage Pathology granted by the State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology with ASHA certification of clinical competence OR
  • Valid Texas license as an occupational therapist granted by the Texas Board Occupational Therapy Examiners OR
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in the field of special education with at least five years experience in special education.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Intricate knowledge of child development and communication disabilities
  • Knowledge of various disorders disabilities and syndromes encountered in
  • public school
  • Extensive Knowledge of Assistive Technology Services
  • Advanced knowledge of assistive technology software and hardware
  • Through understanding of FAPE and IDEA requirements for services in public education
  • Knowledge of TEA and District eligibility criteria for specialized services
  • Skills in consultation with teachers and parents
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively (spoken and written)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Assessment Services

  • Assess students with disabilities to determine necessary assistive technology devices and services.
  • Participate in the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with the interpretation of assessment data appropriate placement and goal setting for students according to district procedures.
  • Participate with and facilitate assistive technology teams to modify/adapt curriculum and implement recommended assistive technology devices/services.

Consultation

  • Consult with educational staff and parents regarding the provision of assistive technology devices and services.
  • Provide staff development training to assist school personnel in the implementation of various assistive technology devices including both hardware and software applications.
  • Provide followup support to staff and students.
  • Consult with parents teachers administrators and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.

Program Management

  • Develop and coordinate assistive technology operational guidelines and a continuing evaluation of the assistive technology program and implement changes based on the findings.
  • Assist in the selection of equipment and adaptive material.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  • Maintain and update the assistive technology inventory.

Administration

  • Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education ule and local board policy.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues students and parents.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignments.
  • Develop and provide professional development trainings to staff
  • Share training meaningful training opportunities with teachers.
  • Conduct other duties and assignments as directed by the Executive Director of Special Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Daily districtwide travel to multiple work locations assigned; moderate lifting. May be required to carry technology equipment and assist students with positioning who have physical disabilities
