Job Description

TO: All Teaching and Administrative Personnel Brockton Public Schools FROM:Dr. Kathleen F. Moran Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources SUBJECT: COUNSELORSGUIDANCE and SAC: RISING 9TH GRADE HUMANITIES AND STEM CAMP SUMMER 2025 Contingent upon funding and adequate enrollment the Office of Teaching and Learning will provide a Humanities and STEM Camp summer program. The Humanities and STEM Camp is for rising 9th grade students who have not met academic requirements and need skill support to experience success across all core content areas as they enter high school. Teachers are needed to instruct in the program which will target students entering grade 9. The academic program will run MondayFriday from June 30th July 31st (with the exception of July 3rd and 4th) at Brockton High School. The number of counselors is dependent on student enrollment.There will be a required training session on a date to be determined prior to the start of the program. Ten 10 hours of compensation at the contractual hourly rate will be paid for training and lesson preparation. The program (student hours) will run from 8:30 am 11:30 am daily. Counselor hours are 4 hours per day 8:00 am12:00 pm). QUALIFICATIONS:1.Appropriate license from the MA DESE2.Experience as a counselor in middle school and/or high school. 3.Available to provide academic career personal and social emotional support each day. 4.Ability to utilize Character Strong and deliver lessons during structured times of the program. 5.Ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers and student mentors to support students and families throughout the program. 6.Experience communicating and making referrals to community partners on behalf of students needing additional social emotional support.7.Prior experience working in a summer program is preferred8.Must commit to work the entire program and attend training DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1.During the month of June provide outreach and program information to the identified students and families to aid in registration. 2.Collaboratively plan lessons with other counselors and student mentors that support students social and emotional development and aid in their transition to high school.3.Provide learning opportunities that support the academic career social and personal goals of students 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. 4.Participate in planning and/or supervision from 8:00 am 8:30 am while students arrive and eat breakfast.5.Participate in planning and/or supervision from 11:30 am 12:00 pm while students are dismissed and eat lunch.6.Monitor and report student progress7.Attend up to 10 hours of training before the start of the summer program.8.Complete and submit documentation forms to the program supervisor as needed9.Other duties as directed by the program supervisorCompensation:Stipend $4000 Funding Source: Local
