About SAAAC Autism Centre

The SAAAC Autism Centre is a registered charity based in Toronto. The centre was founded in 2008 with the intention of empowering culturally and linguistically diverse families in need of ASD support.

The organizations mandate is to provide culturally responsive services that encourage lifelong development of children youth and adults with autism; empower caregivers through education training and peer support networks; and increase access through community engagement and knowledge sharing.

Your Role on Our Team

The Supervised Support Facilitator will work within both the Entry to School (ETS) and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) teams supporting staffing needs across all teams and locations.

Within the ETS program the Supervised Support Facilitator will help to deliver groupbased skillbuilding sessions in the areas of communication behaviour management/emotional regulation social/interpersonal skills functional routines and preacademics to young children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to support entry to school. ETS classrooms are located at the SAAAC Birchmount site Emily Carr Public School and Cornell Public School all located in Scarborough.

Within the ABA programs the Supervised Support Facilitator will support in either the 1:1 (i.e. working with 1 child) dyad (i.e. working with 2 children) or group programming (i.e. working with up to 8 children supporting another facilitator) with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder while employing Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) teaching strategies under the direction of an RBA (Registered Behaviour Analyst) and Supervised Senior Therapist (in dyad and groups).

Depending on where support is needed this position reports to specific program managers for the various programs. All other reporting would be to the Group clinical supervisor.

Main Responsibilities

Entry to School

  • Implementing appropriate activities for children designed to help them reach their personal goals including the following:
      • Engage in activities such as singing storytelling acting modelling play skills and play
      • Effectively use ABA teaching strategies such as reinforcement verbal and physical prompts shaping chaining modelling and fading
      • Prepare and implement activities as per curriculum
      • Monitor client behaviours and teach appropriate behaviours as needed
      • Monitor children throughout the day including during snack times
      • Address the personal care requirements of the child during each session
      • Build rapport with children to support progress

  • Communicate and record daytoday observations
  • Maintain materials and equipment and a tidy classroom
  • Collaborate with other team members when appropriate
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families caregivers internal teams and volunteers
  • Review available information pertaining to all children in the classroom when needed

ABA

  • Work with one or multiple clients (age range): 217 years old under the supervision of an RBA and Supervised Senior Therapist(dyad and group)
  • Complete various assessments needed for client programming (e.g. preference assessments baseline assessments functional behavior assessments)
  • Use ABA Strategies and adhere to program writeup to teach various goals as per the clients behavior plan
  • Help to reduce clients challenging behaviors (e.g. aggression selfinjurious behaviors property destruction sensory behaviors) by collecting data using antecedent and consequent based strategies utilizing appropriate SMG strategies adhering to the clients behavior support plan)
  • Complete administrative tasks: Prepare and organize the teaching environments and materials needed for teaching updating data sheets Penelope etc.
  • Support in maintaining the clients binder (physical and online binder)
  • Utilize sound clinical judgment and appropriate antecedent strategies to run a successful session (e.g. visuals timer firstthen board visual schedule).
  • Responsible for collecting data during each session. Responsible for tracking and analysis including graphing and summarizing information at the end of each session
  • Flags exceptional circumstances as well as the need for changes to the program plan with supervisors
  • Address personal care requirements of the client during session (e.g. toileting diaper changes assisting with changing clothes etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients and team members (e.g. sanitizing toys assisting with cleaning etc.
  • Ensure safety of clients by following SMG protocols SAAAC health and safety protocols and adherence to SAAACs policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree or College diploma in Behavioural Sciences Social Services Psychology or Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum of 1 years work experience delivering ABA programming
  • Have a good understanding of Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or Autism
  • Available to work evenings and weekends
  • Strong interpersonal and timemanagement skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Access to a reliable means of transportation (e.g. public transportation personal vehicle)
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability
  • Strong interpersonal skills to gain trust and respect of children and their parents.
  • Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respects diverse backgrounds experience and styles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word Excel Teams PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check.
  • Proof of full vaccination against COVID19

Additional Requirements

  • Communicating and interacting with team members and families in a professional and respectful manner
  • Being open to receiving and implementing feedback provided by supervisors and team members
  • Maintaining knowledge of and adhering to legislative requirements and professional standards
  • Completing Centre administrative activities and requirements including attendance serious occurrences and incident reports.
  • Adhering to employee responsibilities for Health & Safety as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations
  • Ability to spend most of the day at the childs level i.e. sitting on the floor or on child height chairs
  • Able to bend stoop and lift child to adult height (up to 20 kg) and to move childrens furniture or equipment to prepare room for programming needs.
  • Update liability insurance on an annual basis
