Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a selfmotivated person who is eager to learn and to become part of our team. This position will work to ensure regulated hemp products in the Commonwealth of Virginia comply with all laws and regulations. Duties include evaluating and reporting on hemp products at regulated establishments to include labeling and packaging requirements; conducting onsite reviews and meetings; reviewing facility conditions and evaluating other retail food safety requirements. Additionally this position will review certificates of analysis; conduct complaint investigations; and review regulated hemp product retail facility registrations hemp food safety permits and hemp disclosure forms for assigned territory. The selected individual will establish and work from a home office in or convenient to the City of Virginia Beach. The home office must have reliable internet access. A state vehicle will be provided for business use only and must remain parked within the territory.
Minimum Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of inspection and investigation practices and procedures. Ability to read interpret communicate and apply complex laws and regulations and product labels; to work in an adverse environment to gather information and deescalate challenging situations make autonomous decisions and take appropriate actions in diverse circumstances and environments; and to prepare and maintain detailed inspection and investigation reports tend to other related administrative requirements monitor and assess the performance of regulated entities and document improvements or take correction action. Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally; to work both independently and in a team environment; to successfully interact with coworkers the public the hemp industry and other regulated agencies; and to be selfmotivated detail oriented and effectively plan and organize work activities. Fundamental knowledge of computer applications. Must have (or be eligible for) and maintain a valid drivers license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position which includes good visual acuity and the ability to walk bend stretch crouch and lift loads up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations. Ability to attend mandatory meetings trainings etc. and to travel (day and overnight to possibly include weekends) as requested/needed. H.S. Diploma/GED required.
Additional Considerations
A combination of related education training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge skills and abilities to include knowledge of food science biology chemistry biochemistry environmental health compliance law enforcement or a related field.
