The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency and is responsible for the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons Correction Enterprises Division of Community Corrections and Reentry Programs and Services. We have a mission that matters!

The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative Electrical Engineer (Engineer II) to be a part of the DECMEngineering Team. This position has a duty station at the DECM Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh NC and will be tasked with applying architectural based knowledge forwardthinking direction and overall project management.

The successful candidate for the Electrical Engineer (Engineer II) position reports directly to the Electrical Design Supervisor and will provide the DECMEngineering group with leadership and forwardthinking direction management and coordination on multimilliondollar Force Account and likeinkind construction renovation and maintenance projects. This position provides DECMEngineering with inhouse electrical design of lifesafety (Fire Alarm Systems emergency generators egress lighting etc. interior and exterior lighting systems primary and secondary power distribution systems grounding systems and arcflash designs on multimilliondollar Force Account construction renovation and major maintenance projects for all NCDAC owned facilities.

This position works closely with other inhouse design disciplines construction and maintenance personnel within the Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM) and with outside design and construction entities to provide services to the department in the form of plan development specification writing estimating building field investigations project management and planning scoping budgeting and evaluation of other systems for new and existing facilities.

This position requires the daily commute to DECMs Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh NC. This is a fulltime position 40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday Friday and may require some weekend work to meet the demands of the organization. Flexible work schedules can be discussed at the time of offered employment.

As of January 1 2025 there are new Salary increase adjustments to the States pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission. Effective January 1 2025. The new salary range (s) will be $61545.00 $107703.00.

Bachelor s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three 3 years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. TheDivision of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM)serves as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement new construction renovation and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO). DECM also acts as the DAC representative on matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support sustainability efficiency and resiliency planning as well as construction and maintenance services. This ensures that all statewide Institutions and Facilities comply with building codes regulations and legislative mandates while promoting the agencys rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training in the construction and maintenance trades.

We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen plumbing mechanical electrical and electronics equipment. The DECMEngineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design property services project management and sustainability efficiency and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction renovation and likeinkind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agencys physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office.

Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECMConstruction undertakes construction renovation and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the departments infrastructure assets. DECMMaintenance which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard Piedmont Regional Yard Coastal Regional Yard and three Satellite Yards provides essential plumbing HVAC/R and electrical preventative prescriptive and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications electronic intrusion systems (EIS) fencing cameras fire alarms and energy management systems all focused on maintaining the Departments infrastructure assets.

DAC uses the MeritBased Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
