Job Summary
The Senior Reinsurance Financial Reporting Accountant will review and analyze the preparation and implementation of reinsurance financial reporting duties to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting of complex reinsurance transactions and reinsurance subsidiary companies. This includes review and preparation of GAAP STAT and local regulatory financial statements and review of the monthly/quarterly financial statement close activities for reinsurance subsidiaries and other offshore entities.
This position reports to the Manager Reinsurance Financial Reporting .
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of regulatory required reporting. This includes supporting coordination and preparation as well as review of the Annual audited statements (including financial statement schedules and disclosures) Quarterly Statements and any associated filings; includes GAAP STAT and local regulatory filings for the companys reinsurance subsidiaries and other offshore entities. Reviews the monthly/quarterly financial statement close activities for reinsurance subsidiaries and other offshore entities. Partners with the Reinsurance Financial Reporting Accountant to give feedback.
- Prepares analysis and utilizes reporting tools to obtain information from the general ledger (Oracle) financial data warehouse and/or onshore accounting teams as required to assist with the reconciliation and analytic duties related to position. Analytics performed at the treaty and reinsurance legal entity level on US GAAP STAT and other regulatory bases of accounting. Serves as point of contact for both internal and external auditors (EY) for reinsurance activity.
- Collaborates with appropriate parties to develop quarterly results presentation. Presents financial information in the presentation during quarterly meetings.
- Performs internal control procedures and documentation of controls to support compliance around reinsurance related activities.
- Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations including supporting analysis when applicable.
- Seeks continuous process improvements including identifying opportunities for automation and provides recommendations.
- Assists in the mentoring training and guidance of staff level Reinsurance Financial Reporting Accountants.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelors degree required with preference in Accounting/Finance.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in related field or combination of experience with a professional designation (CPA CFA CIA CISA etc. considered.
- Reinsurance accounting experience in the life insurance or financial services industries strongly preferred.
- Insurance industry experience preferred.
- Professional designation in related field preferred (CPA CFA CIA CISA etc..
- Experience analyzing and understanding key data and technical accounting.
