Job Description

  • Paygrade 4
  • $14.61/hr
  • Replacing Carla Hillock
  • Effective 9/3/24

Position Summary

Supports teachers to ensure the best possible learning experience for the special education children in a safe and secure environment while maintaining confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities

(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be essential functions in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)

  • Float throughout the building to support special needs students.
  • Assist oneonone small groups or classroom with students under the supervision of the teacher as directed.
  • Assist teacher with completing academic tasks.
  • Assist in engaging student with instructional activities developed by the teacher i.e. reading writing math spelling and life skills etc.
  • Maintain behavior and utilize behavior intervention when necessary.
  • Assist children with toileting as needed.
  • Familiarize yourself with individual student requirements.
  • Communicate with community staff and students to answer questions disseminate or explain information.

Education:

This position requires high school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates Licenses or Registrations: May be required to take additional classes to address students specific needs.

Experience:

  • Experience working with children required
  • Experience working with special education students preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations required.
  • Working knowledge of computers preferred.

Skills:

  • Good communication skills required.
  • Adaptability to learn required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to adapt to change required.
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching skills required.
  • Ability to handle and relate to emotional and physical challenges required.
  • Ability to be caring understanding patient and friendly towards students required.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students staff and community required.
  • Ability to read and interpret school policies and handbook required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in oneonone small group and classroom situations required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of files material computer and audio visual equipment etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
