A Brief Overview
The Senior Director of Radiation Oncology and the Proton Center provides overall technical leadership and operational direction for Radiation Oncology across all technological modalities and network sites. Working under the direction of the Executive Director and the Chair/ViceChair of Radiation Oncology responsibilities include operational management of the technical fiscal human and information resources of the department while ensuring compliance with standards and laws of external regulatory organizations. Develops and manages the technical departments operating budgets and develops capital budgets in collaboration with the senior leadership to execute on new technologies and innovation. Develops plans and implements strategies to ensure cost control and revenue enhancements. Supervises technical staff and works closely with faculty nursing and administrative teams.

What you will do

  • As a senior member of the Cancer Center and Radiation Oncology leadership team works with the Department Chair and ViceChair to plan develop and implement long and shortrange goals and objectives for the department.

  • Collaborates with the Radiation Oncology Director of Finance Administration (DFA) to analyze and develop the profitability of new treatment programs and define the capital and human resource requirements necessary to implement and monitor these programs.

  • Provides direct supervision to the technical Radiation Oncology leadership team. Coaches team for optimal performance and leadership development. Holds leaders accountable their scope of work and teams performance.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure achievement of departmental and health system goals in compliance with applicable regulations and standards of external regulatory organizations including but not limited to The Joint Commission The American College of Radiology American Society of Radiation Oncology (APEx) and health system policies for patient services and environmental and personnel safety.

  • Fully responsible for the successful implementation and operation of new technologies e.g. hadron treatment center in collaboration with the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC) the Palo Alto Veterans Administration SHC and LPCH.

  • Develops and manages the technical department capital and operating budgets.

  • Develops plans and implements strategies to ensure cost control and revenue enhancements. Promotes and maintains physician and administrative partnerships manages change effectively and establishes collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff and physicians.

  • Defines and develops radiation oncology service standards quality assurance program patient safety treatment policies and procedures across the cancer network.

  • Develops maintains and evaluates a comprehensive quality management program that is in compliance with Stanford Healthcare and Cancer Destination Service Line quality plan as well as external requirements (accreditation regulatory and licensing agencies.. Determines an appropriate delivery of care model for service in cooperation with staff and physicians. Implements and evaluates safe therapeutic and costeffective patient care practices.

  • Defines performance objectives and metrics for the department and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner. Continuously assesses and improves departments performance based on customer needs; directs and participates in improving performance and services which benefit staff patients and other customers. Collaborates with managers to assist them and to maintain appropriate quality control programs in response to internal standards of care and external requirements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a workrelated discipline/field from an accredited college or university

  • Masters degree in radiation sciences medical physics or related field

  • 10 years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience managing and leading programs work units or departments of comparable size scope and complexity.

  • Prior experience developing longrange business plans and strategy in a complex and regulated environment accomplishing complex tasks through the efforts of teammembers and resolving complex issues in a complex environment.

  • PhD or
    American Board of Radiology Certification (ABR) or
    American Board of Medical Physics certification (ABMP) or
    Another certifying body recognized by the American College of Radiology in an equivalent specialty area. .


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theory principles methods and equipment of radiation oncology.

  • Strong strategic planning skills.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization administration fiscal and personnel management.

  • Knowledge of local state and federal regulatory requirement related to the functional area.

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on fact and sound judgment.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships and communication with staff clinical leadership team physicians other healthcare professionals and patients and families.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and influence others.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.

  • Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve complex problems and issues.

  • Robust knowledge of radiation oncology and technical disciplines

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $109.11 $144.57 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
