JOB SUMMARY

The School Technology Specialist is responsible for schoolbased technical support for students and staff to ensure working technology hardware and software to fulfill educational requirements and needs. This position acts as a liaison between building staff and the Technology Department providing twoway communication and implementing technologies as directed by the department.

Works under the leadership of the technology department. Independently resolves routine and less complex user problems. Coordinates with other technology staff and/or supervisor in referring or resolving more complex issues. Work is evaluated based on overall success of assisting users and resolving problems consistent with district and technology department policies directives and standard practices and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. Duties may vary from positiontoposition or schooltoschool based on the employee(s) specific assignment.

  1. Maintain the schools inventory of student devices printers presentation equipment and other related hardware. Communicate with the Asset Management Specialist to ensure that inventory is sufficient to support the needs of students and staff. Surplus and redistribute equipment as needed.
  2. Assign and collect student computing devices and peripherals as needed on an annual basis. Assign and reverse technology fines for students due to lost or damaged hardware. Assign oneday loaner devices to students who need a temporary device. Assess damage and enter tickets for repair of devices.
  3. Support staff and students in troubleshooting procedures for hardware software and peripherals such as printing errors network connectivity problems presentation system issues email issues and device power issues. Use Technology Department resources such as the knowledge base and work order system to ensure standard guidance and procedures are followed.
  4. Work with students individually and in small groups to provide technical support related to assigned district devices and peripherals. Monitor student use of equipment Internet email and other technology resources as requested by Supervisor(s) or school Administrators.
  5. Support and maintain the school website. Support staff in their use of district website tools and maintenance of classroom websites.
  6. Create and track work orders in the Technology work order system. Provide timely response to assigned tickets and escalate promptly when necessary. Direct staff to resources for troubleshooting and training.
  7. Support successful annual staterequired testing efforts in collaboration with the School Assessment Coordinator Technology Department and District Assessment staff. Facilitate twoway communication with Technology staff and school staff regarding issues and technical problems with online testing software.
  8. Work as a member of a team with the TeacherLibrarian Instructional Technology Coordinators Technology Department and others on school technology issues. Assist school technology team in researching software hardware and peripheral selections for the school adhering to the Digital Resource Review process.
  9. Share information with school staff regarding learning opportunities technical implementations and timelines and requirements for use of technology. Provide feedback to the Technology Department to represent staff needs. Attend district STS meetings.
  10. Support ongoing efforts of teachers and teacherlibrarians working with students and staff to develop Digital Citizenship skills and habits.
  11. May support schoolspecific activities such as Hour of Code keyboarding instruction supporting largerspace AV systems in Gyms and Commons and others.
  12. Collaborate with other School Technology Specialists (STS) and the ITC in pathways and grade bands to ensure consistent delivery and service across the district.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the district technology administrator in consultation with the building administrator(s).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a classroom environment and/or computer lab setting; may experience frequent interruptions; may be required to deal with distraught or angry students. Physical requirements include operating computer equipment moving and lifting computer equipment and related peripherals (bending pushing repetitive motions kneeling and stooping). Must have physical ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. The workplace has exposure to varying levels of dust and/or heat.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Skill and experience working with schoolage children preferred. Experience in personal computer operating systems.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students teachers district staff and the public. Knowledge of effective uses of technology in curriculum; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to work with minimum supervision; demonstrated initiative and problemsolving skills; basic troubleshooting of Macintosh and PC computers and peripherals; and technical knowledge of network use hardware and software.

Licenses/Special Requirements

Ability to operate computers and learn specific software applications.

Salary:Salary is based upon the currentESP Salary Schedule(Level I); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA NonExempt.

Work Year: Hours and days vary.
