Summary
SUMMARY:
King County International Airport/ Boeing Field (KCIA) is searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic team play to join our organization as an Airport Utility Worker II to help maintain our airfield and facilities. This position will have experience inconstruction road maintenance airfield maintenance facilities maintenance and/or other heavy manual labor areas.
ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT
The Airport Maintenance Section is the biggest section at the airport. This section provides critical infrastructure support to the entire airport. This maintenance support includes a variety of assets including our terminal tenant hangars aircraft tiedowns landscaping airfield and landside road maintenance and construction support.
ABOUT KING COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOEING FIELD)
KCIA is one of the busiest primary nonhub general aviation airports in the nation. Located just four miles south of downtown Seattle it averages 180000 aircraft operations each year. KCIA ranks among the most successful public investments in state history. The airports annual economic impact is $3.5 billion supporting more than 16000 jobs and providing $1.8 billion in labor income in the county. KCIA promotes the health of the aviation industry by establishing pipelines for employment and for employee development.
As a general aviation airport KCIA serves small commercial passenger airlines cargo carriers including UPS private aircraft owners helicopters corporate jets and military and other aircraft. It is also the final delivery center for the Boeing Companys 737 aircraft and serves as the companys military flight center along with other Boeing operations. The Museum of Flight is located on the airport property with a wide variety of aircraft and exhibits showcasing aviation history. KCIA frequently is host to celebrities and dignitaries who prefer Boeing Field because of its proximity to downtown Seattle and convenient connections to other business districts in the region. Due to its proximity to Lumen Field TMobile Park and other sports venues many teams prefer to use KCIA when playing in Seattle.

SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES:
- Operate motor vehicles and radios on runways and taxiways under the control of the Airports Air Traffic Control Tower to perform airfield maintenance tasks and escort contractor personnel.
- Assist journey level trade workers who perform carpentry plumbing electrical HVAC heavy duty machinal work and airfield striping.
- Assist in performing minor maintenance preventative maintenance and repairs to facilities; repairing and inspecting fences sidewalks roofs gutters and asphalt and concrete roads; clean and replace various signage types. Operate lift trucks and a variety of power equipment.
- Mow and rake airport grounds; trim shrubs and trees; perform heavy housekeeping and other grounds keeping as directed.
- Airside and landside snow and ice removal.
- Maintain and repair runways and taxiways.
- Inspect and clean catch basins storm vaults and pump houses.
- Provide FOD (foreign object debris) and litter control services.
- Lift carry move or handle up to 50pound bags tools equipment and other objects to complete any of the above reference functions.
- Respond courteously to airport tenants and the public.
- Respond to and support Airport emergencies events and incidents including inclement weather events.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIATES WHO:
- Have experience in construction road maintenance airfield maintenance or other heavy manual labor areas OR completion of a recognized vocational trades program.
- Have knowledge in the use and care of hand tools and equipment used in airport maintenance construction road maintenance or other heavy manual labor areas.
- Have knowledge of safety procedures for construction airfield maintenance or other heavy manual labor areas (fall protection confined space hazardous materials).
- Have knowledge of heavy manual labor activities and can follow verbal and written instructions.
- Can perform duties including physical labor including bending kneeling standing reaching climbing stooping squatting pushing twisting and can lift up to 50 pounds.
- Are able to perform work outdoors and in inclement weather.
- Have basic mechanical aptitude.
- Can adhere to federal state and county mandated safety regulations and policies.
- Are a team player and understand the value of working as a team.
- Can exercise proper situational awareness in demanding conditions (i.e. working near landing departing and taxing aircraft; precautions during day/night operations etc.
- Have a demonstrated work history of predicable and reliable attendance.
- Are able to speak and understand Aviation English; standardized international language of civil aviation.
- Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite email correspondence time tracking City Works and/or other similar applications.
Supplemental Information
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful applicants must have or obtain a valid drivers license from the state of Washington upon start date.
- An offer of employment will be contingent on the success of a preemployment physical examination.
- Must obtain full airfield drivers certifications within the first month after star of employment.
- Must be able to distinguish the colors red green and amber; red blue yellow and white.
Work Schedule: 4/10hr shifts on a day swing or weekend crew schedule. Weekends include Saturday or Sunday. Schedules are subject to change. This fulltime position is nonexempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Overtime work may be required. Alternate shift work including nights weekend holidays as well as extended work hours may be necessary to meet Airport operational and project demand.
Union representation:This role is represented by Local 117 International Brotherhood of Teamsters Joint Units Agreement.
