Job Description

*One position at each Middle School.*

JOB TITLE: Dean of Students Middle School

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Dean of Students for Middle School is responsible for promoting a positive school culture upholding student discipline and ensuring that students adhere to the behavioral and academic standards established by HCPS. This role involves collaboration with school administrators educators and parents to foster a supportive secure and respectful learning environment. The Dean of Students will spearhead initiatives designed to address student behavior enhance student engagement and develop comprehensive strategies for achieving success both socially and academically.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and maintains a positive school culture by implementing behavior management programs and positive school climate strategies.
  • Works closely with the principal faculty staff and parents to create and uphold high expectations for student behavior including the enforcement of school policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Oversees and manages student discipline including investigating student issues addressing conflicts and implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborates with teachers and staff to identify students who may need additional support including academic social or behavioral interventions.
  • Coordinates and monitors student attendance and behavior data to identify trends provide reports and recommend improvements to enhance student achievement.
  • Works with students individually or in groups to address behavioral socialemotional or academic concerns creating improvement plans as necessary.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for schoolbased discipline referrals ensuring clear communication between school staff students and parents.
  • Works collaboratively with guidance counselors administrators and other personnel to ensure the holistic support of all students.
  • Leads or coleads student behaviorrelated committees including helping to facilitate the development of restorative practices and conflict resolution.
  • Supports the implementation of antibullying programs conflict resolution strategies and socialemotional learning initiatives.
  • Provides supervision and support for afterschool extracurricular activities throughout the school year.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in Education School Administration or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching license or administrative certification in accordance with state requirements.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an educational setting with demonstrated leadership in managing student behavior and creating supportive environments for academic and socialemotional growth.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students staff and parents.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This role involves light work that requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly for moving objects. Light physical work may also necessitate exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and negligible force constantly. The position also requires the use of hands for grasping handling or feeling as well as for fine manipulation and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is essential for expressing or exchanging ideas verbally. Hearing is necessary to understand information at normal conversation levels. Visual acuity is needed for preparing and analyzing written or computer data operating office equipment and observing the general surroundings and activities. The worker is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
