Job Description

POSITION TITLE:1.0 FTE LongTerm Substitute Literacy Specialist

Reports to: K5 Literacy Department Head & Building Principal

Terms of Employment: To cover a leave of absence from approximately March 7 2025 through June 6 2025.

$175 per diem nonbenefits eligible position

JOB GOAL:

The literacy specialist provides direct intervention to students collaborates and consults with teachers plans and facilitates professional development and collaborates with department colleagues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide researchbased direct instruction in small intervention groups to atrisk students.
  2. Work collaboratively with the schoolwide team on the appropriate use of data in making educational decisions.
  3. Facilitate the coordination of schoolwide and individual student progress monitoring data.
  4. Facilitate and/ or provide professional learning experiences for teachers.
  5. Collaborate with building administration and teacher teams to review student data

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  2. Strive to improve professional and cultural competence.
  3. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  5. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
  6. Maintain a caseload of students receiving instructional interventions as determined by building administration.
  7. Attend Intervention Specialist meetings and share pertinent information with building administration and teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate MA DESE licensure in Reading all grade levels
  • Masters degree in Specialist teacher of Reading Language and Literacy English Language Arts Curriculum and/or English as a Second Language preferred.
  • Leadership and organizational qualities that include the ability to facilitate teams communicate collaboratively coach train and lead others and coordinate data.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the MTSS process appropriate intervention supports and literacy development.
