Position Summary:

The Medical Director Carewest PostAcute Programs provides senior medical administrative input into decisionmaking in relation to strategic and operational matters of the postacute program. Working closely with operational leaders provides integrated leadership direction and support to the teams and medical staff.

Role Requirements:

Based on current knowledge and practice in medicine relevant to the care of those needing postacute care rehabilitation and discharge from a community setting provide guidance and medical leadership to the postacute care teams and leaders both at a system and local level.
In coordination with the Carewest Medical Director coordinate physician recruitment and retention facilitate physician orientation.
Facilitate medical leadership meetings within each postacute site / program support and be available for urgent communications or incidents and provide relevant information and updates to physicians working in postacute programs seeking feedback and input as appropriate.
Support physicians and interdisciplinary teams to adopt change initiatives.
Collaborate with operations leadership to review and / or establish best practice guidelines interdisciplinary team expectations and roles and standards of care with a focus on quality improvement and supporting program changes in collaboration with Carewest leadership.
Review monitor and guide how physicians work with the interdisciplinary team ensuring standards are met and the Carewest approach to teamwork and care decisions are determined and supported.
Ensure the physicians in the program are supported to provide safe care and meet accountabilities supporting the concern review process in collaboration with program leadership.
Participate in Carewest business planning processes providing input and evaluation of the medical implications of selected priority projects.

Please note: This position is for a 0.2 FTE 15.5 biweekly hours)

Qualifications

    • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.

    • The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills strong leadership skills and experience and demonstrated collaboration and teambuilding skills.

    • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and hold a licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.

    • Please note: Preference will be given to candidates already working within our Carewest postacute programs.
