The Technical Assessment Officer works out of YESABs Head Office in Whitehorse Yukon.

Whats YESAB
The Yukon Environmental and Socioeconomic Assessment Board (YESAB) is an independent body established under the Umbrella Final Agreement and YESAA legislation in 2003. YESAB conducts environmental and socioeconomic assessments of projects before they are approved by the governing body. Our purpose is to conduct neutral timely efficient and effective environmental and socioeconomic assessments in the Yukon.

Eligibility
- An undergraduate degree and/or postsecondary training in environmental science social science or a similar field of study is preferred. Relevant work experience or training may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socioeconomic Assessment Act as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nation Agreements is required.
- Management experience including ability to supervise and lead teams or procurement processes contracting and overseeing project deliverables is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a First Nation government is considered an asset.
The Technical Assessment Officer is responsible for:
- Developing environmental and socioeconomic assessments which includes preparing detailed recommendation reports identifying environmental and socioeconomic effects and mitigation measures and supports assessment recommendations. The two positions may be responsible for focusing on certain topic areas based on their individual expertise including but not limited to:
- Socioeconomic: Employment and economy community vitality human health and wellbeing cultural continuity and land use and tenure.
- Environmental and Technical: Wildlife plants and vegetation health fish and aquatic resources water quality and quantity and air quality.
- Overseeing procurement processes and managing contracts with external consultants or contractors who support technical assessments.
- This includes ensuring contract deliverables align with assessment objectives are completed on time and meet quality standards.
- Conducting research and maintaining awareness of relevant technical and scientific information and traditional knowledge related to projects and emerging trends in environmental and socioeconomic impact assessment practice.
