Job Description

Pay Scale:Classified

Pay Grade 7: $18.94/$22.68/$26.42

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision maintain repair and install heating and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district.

Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in district facilities

Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC systems throughout the district.

Qualification Guidelines:

Education/Certifications:

High School diploma or GED

Valid Texas drivers license

Texas Refrigerant & Equipment Certification

Experience:

Five years experience in Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning field

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs corrective and preventive maintenance and installation techniques

Ability to read and interpret blueprints diagrams schematics and written reference material

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Ability to use hand and power tools

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist in the training and supervision of skilled trades HVAC workers and A/C Filter Mechanics.

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Meters gauges welding equipment ladder hoist hand and power tools pipe bender propane torch. Light truck or van

Posture: Continuous walking standing climbing stooping bending kneeling reaching carrying and heavy lifting.

Motion: Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions outside and inside

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide and statewide travelExposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel occasional prolonged andirregular hours; work indoors and outdoors to conduct onsite inspection of all facilities and construction projects; work around machinery with moving parts; work on ladders or scaffolding

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; communicate effectively and professionally at all times

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. You will be to be on a security and on call rotation

Facility Construction Repair and Maintenance

2. Troubleshoot diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) including rooftop equipment.

3. Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components.

4.Relocate and expand existing heating ventilating and air conditioning systems as needed.

5. Repair replace or calibrate controls thermostats switches fuses and electrical wiring.

6.Fabricate assemble and install duct work and piping according to specifications and code.

7.Wire and connect motors compressors temperature controls and controls humidity according to wiring schematics.

8.Maintain freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.

9.Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize the most efficient and costeffective use of HVAC energy.

10.Receive and complete corrective and preventive maintenance work orders.

11.Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

12. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
13. Maintain inventory of districtowned tools equipment and materials.
14. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
15. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
16. Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
17. Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Safety

18.Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

19.Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

20.Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.

21.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting climbing etc.

22.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

23.Perform other duties as assigned.
