Mens ACHA Hockey Club Head Coach - Recreation Wellness Part Time Adjunct

Position Summary:This parttime no benefits position is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Mens Hockey Club program which includes teams competing at both the ACHA Division 1 (GLCHL) and Division 3 (MCHC) levels. The position directly serves as the head coach for the ACHA Division 1 team while providing programwide oversight guidance and support for the ACHA Division 3 team.The Head Coach is responsible for planning organizing and leading an engaged ACHA Division 1 hockey program while collaborating with Recreation & Wellness staff student executive board members and additional coaching staff to ensure the overall success of the Mens Hockey Club.

Salary & Benefits:Stipend of $10000

Primary Duties:

• Organize plan and execute a fullyear athlete development plan that includes weekly practices and games at a high level of efficiency and skill.
• Schedule all practices home and away games and coordinate officiating needs.
• Hire develop direct and oversee parttime and volunteer staff.
• Work with the student executive board and coaching staff to lead and manage the budget for the team(s) and ensure sound accounting practices.
• Work with the student executive board and coaching staff to develop and execute studentathlete expectations and accountability plans for the program.
• Coordinate travel for away games including but not limited to transportation and hotels.
• Actively oversee and execute recruiting opportunities and events fundraisers and alumni engagement.
• Communicate openly and effectively with GVSU Club Sports the ACHA coaching staff student executive board and team members.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Prior head coaching experience at high school collegiate level or above.

• First Aid CPR AED certification or willingness to attain within the first 3 months of employment.

• Strong communication management and administrative skills and a desire to work in a club hockey program alongside student leadership.

• Valid drivers license and ability to complete and pass a background check.

• Establish and maintain a high level of program integrity culture and standards that will be upheld and passed on.

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• USA Hockey Level 4 coaching certification or ability to obtain one prior to the start of the season.

• Strong ties to the local hockey community.

• Experience training athletes in physical performance hockey technique and intangibles such as mental toughness leadership development goal setting and overall wellness.

• Experience in recruiting fundraising and community/alumni engagement.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed outside of a normal office environment and will require night and evening hours outside of typical business hours. Travel will be required for both practice and events.
