DESCRIPTION:

The primary duty of a custodian is to perform the work of a general custodial nature.

SALARY RANGE:$22.02 per hour

BENEFITS:Employeesmaybe eligible for insurance through SEBB (School Employees Benefit Board). Retirement benefits are through Department of Retirement Systems SERS pension plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or GED

2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating instructions maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

3. Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals

4. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form

5. First aid card or willingness to obtain

Director & Assistant Director of Maintenance and Transportation

Supervises:

No direct reports

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Mopping dusting sweeping vacuuming emptying wastebaskets washing windows washing wall and washing woodwork
  2. Waxing buffing and scrubbing floors
  3. Painting removing garbage changing light bulbs unplugging drains
  4. Snow removal and areas deiced around entryways during the school day evening activities and meetings in the buildings
  5. Clean and disinfect rest rooms
  6. Prepare rooms for meetings and programs
  7. Work may involve the use of mechanical equipment
  8. Notify supervisors concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting heating and ventilation equipment
  9. Work from specific instructions and is expected to perform duties independently
  10. Demonstrate integrity loyalty and professionalism
  11. Keep small lawns watered adjacent to buildings
  12. Summer duties may include working with maintenance personnel inside and outside of buildings

13. Other duties deemed necessary and appropriate as assigned by the supervisors

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working area will be throughout the entire school district as directed. Some duties may require working in the outside elements while the typical duties will be performed indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Physical and Environmental Requirements of the Position:

The employee must lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds and may assist move or restrain students with greater weight when required to intervene in student safety issues.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit lift carry move about hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or consistent with the subject being taught but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions temperature fluctuations fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
