Job Description

***THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION THAT WILL LAST APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS*****

EssentialFunctions:

  • Care for feed and monitor animals in the shelter
  • Report observed health or behavior issues to department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Clean assigned areas daily in compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Provide information to the public about Humane Society of North Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownership
  • Keep current inventory
  • Maintain assigned equipment supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Representthe Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service
  • Protect the confidential information oncustomers and donors
  • Walk dogs daily in all weather conditions
  • Ability to deal with fractious animals
  • Work with dogs on training such as leashtraining and behavioral training based on recommendations from the behavioristand trainers
  • Additional tasks assigned by department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Ability to meet physical demands

KnowledgeSkills and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of thisPosition:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with animals
  • Ability to read write and communicateeffectively
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work withdetailed information on paper and computerized format
  • Ability to work under stressful circumstances
  • Working knowledge of breeds diseases medicalconditions and animal handling and behavior
  • Selfmotivated works effectively under pressureand has the ability to multitask
  • Works collaboratively with all departmentswithin the organization
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes inprograms and procedures
  • Ability to represent the Humane Society of NorthTexas in a professional manner
  • Must be able to deal with fractious animals
  • Will be subject to exposure of animal odorsextreme levels of ammonia diseases possible contagious conditions bitesscratches animal waste and moderate noise levels
  • Must support the mission and values of HSNT

  • The physical demands described hereare representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfullyperform the essential functions of the job

  • This position is regularly requiredto use hands to fingers handle talk hear stand walk sit reach with handsand arms and stoop kneel or crouch
  • The position holder must be able toregularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without assistance up to 80 pounds withassistance
  • While performing the duties of thisjob this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles
  • The noise level in the workenvironment is usually moderate

Working Conditions

  • The individual performing this jobmay be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week
