Job Description

PARAEDUCATOR SPECIALIST

BILINGUAL REQUIRED

6.50hrs per day/180 days per year

(MF) 7:303:30

Shift time is subject to building needs.

Paraeducator Specialist

Coordinates activities or performs specialized duties to assist in providing instruction to and supervision of students in a variety of instructional and noninstructional programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have earned 72 college level credits from an institution of higher education have a college degree or be able to pass the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Assessment.
  3. Experience working with students in an educational setting.
  4. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  5. Fluent in a high need target language of Spanish or Ukrainian and English are required.
  6. Ability to relate in a positive manner with students parents and staff/teachers supervisory staff.
  7. Ability to work with high school students in a tutoring situation.
  8. Successful experience tutoring high school students with secondary level math and science classes (Biology Chemistry Algebra Geometry).
  9. Must be willing to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care including verbally coaching students through such situations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work as part of the teaching team following the lesson plans and guidance of the teacher.
  2. Help prepare and/or assemble teaching materials as requested by the teacher.
  3. Assist teachers in supervisory tasks as assigned.
  4. Assist teachers in administering tests evaluating and modifying student work in the context of a lesson.
  5. Works well with English Language Learner(EL) students individually or in small groups to communicate the appropriate learning objectives under supervision of certified staff.
  6. Builds a positive relationship with ELL students.
  7. Encourages EL students to develop positive relationships with their peers.
  8. Receives training to gain understanding of English Language Acquisition.
  9. Responsibly supervises EL students in the classroom lunchroom etc.
  10. Responsible for supervision of EL students upon arrival and departure from school.
  11. Monitors activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
  12. Assists EL students who are ill or injured in a responsible caring manner.
  13. Accepts and acts on suggestions and comments for improving performance.
  14. Help students in development of the English language and accessing curriculum.
  15. Follow and implement detailed behavior management plans.
  16. Use appropriate interventions in handling student misbehavior.
  17. Assist with student misbehavior requiring deescalation techniques.
  18. Take directions and carry through on own without frequent supervision.
  19. Demonstrate empathy and awareness of the needs of students.
  20. Flexible calm and patient in trying situations.
  21. Observe and record student behavior and academic performance.
  22. Exercise good judgment.
  23. Maintain confidentiality of student records as required.
  24. Enforce school and district policies.
  25. Maintain good rapport with students and teachers.
  26. Maintain district assigned email account; read and respond to messages daily.
  27. Maintain good rapport with students and teachers.
  28. Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
  29. Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive respectful relationships and engagements.
  30. Maintain regular attendance.
  31. Other such jobrelated duties as may be assigned.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  1. Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Within the first year of employment successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District as defined in RCW 28A.413.070 and continue to meet future requirements as mandated by the State.
