Job Description

The Sandor Teszler Library at Wofford College seeks a collaborative innovative and experienced leader for the position of Head of Collections Services. The ideal candidate will understand and be committed to the unique role of the library and its collections in an undergraduate liberal arts college environment. Collections Services at Wofford encompasses acquisitions cataloging serials electronic resources and discovery systems. Reporting to the Dean of the Library the Head of Collections Services provides leadership and support for the development assessment and continuous improvement of the library collections. This position coordinates the efforts of the Collections team refines workflows and fosters an environment of collegiality respect and teamwork. The Head of Collections Services supervises the Collections Management Assistant and one or more student employees.

Due to the structure and organizational culture of the library the Collections Services team actively collaborates with other working groups across the library.

The Head of Collections Services is an exempt 1.0FTE position located in the Sandor Teszler Library and the normal work schedule is 8:30am to 5:00 pm Monday work expectations are 37.5 hours/week 7.5 hours per day five days per week).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

50 Leadership of Collections Services Operations

  • Provides leadership for the Collections Services team by setting priorities coaching teaching modeling best practices and sharing information and expertise.

  • Supervises the Collections Assistant and one or more student employees.

  • Manages change with flexibility agility humility and patience.

  • Represents the interests of collections services with a wide range of constituents through clear communication active listening and appropriate followup.

  • Oversees collection assessment to make datainformed decisions regarding the stewardship of the librarys acquisitions budget and its collections.

  • Ensures oversight and management of materials budget expenditures and reports budget trends.

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for vendors and consortia.

40 Collections Management

  • Responsible for electronic resources management.

  • Actively collaborates with liaison librarians and other stakeholders to develop holistic and cohesive collections strategies that respond to the needs of the college.

  • Works with colleagues to coordinate and effectively manage collections assessment cycles that are evidencebased and userfocused.

  • Serves as the primary contact with PASCAL for collectionsrelated matters.

  • Shares responsibility with the Collections Librarian for ensuring timely response to reported access issues related to library resources and/or systems. This includes coordinating with PASCALs support team on issues related to the shared ILS and resources purchased as a member of the consortium.

  • Collaborates with Access Services team to optimize discovery of resources.

10 OtherDutiesas Assigned

  • May serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments.

  • May represent Wofford College on library consortia committees.

  • Participates in library working groups as well as committees or service roles across the Wofford community.

  • Engages in continuous professional development; attends seminars trainings meetings as needed or assigned to keep current with collectionsrelated trends needs and information.

  • Perform other duties or related tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.

  • Ability to work legally in the US without an employersponsored visa.

  • Minimum three years relevant library experience.

  • Experience managing an allocation or budget.

  • Demonstrated supervisory skills including ability to set priorities coach teach model best practices and share information and expertise.

  • Excellent communication skills (listening speaking and writing).

  • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Excellent project management skills problemsolving ability organizational and analytical skills.

  • Ability to embrace change foster innovation and demonstrate humility and receptivity in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to produce accurate statistics and reports.

  • Understands the eresources lifecycle and issues in acquiring licensing and managing access.

  • Experience cataloging with integrated library systems (ILS) preferably Ex Libris Alma and the OCLC bibliographic utility.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues related to library systems databases and eresources.

  • Understands current issues and trends in collection development and management in higher education.

  • Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment where differences are valued encouraged and supported.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with effective stewardship of library collections and budgets.

  • Experience collaborating with a state/regional library consortium on collection management and/or systems administration.

  • Familiarity with how library resources are accessed and used preferably in an undergraduate context and a commitment to removing barriers and advocating for users.

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of collections assessment.

  • Experience managing workflows and processes associated with the acquisition and management of physical and digital resources.

The librarys collection of more than one million resources is largely electronic but there is a core collection of physical materials in support of the colleges liberal arts curriculum.
