Located in the hills of southwest Austin Texas St. Michaels Catholic Preparatory School is an outstanding coeducational Independent Catholic school serving students from PreKindergarten through 12th grade in Austin Texas. The Lower School is comprised of PreK 34th grades the Middle School houses grades 58 and the Upper School contains grades 912. Summary of Position
St. Michaels Catholic Preparatory School seeks a dynamic and experienced Middle School Latin Teacher for theschool year. The ideal candidate is a passionate and dedicated educator who makes Latin and Roman culture engaging and accessible to middle school students. They should have experience with middle school learners and a willingness to incorporate spoken Latin1 and interactive teaching strategies. A commitment to a studentcentered approach that supports diverse learning styles is essential along with strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills and a proven ability to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm for classical studies.
St. Michaels Prep believes in teaching to the whole child focusing on social and emotional development alongside a childs academic progress. We know that children learn best and will take the necessary risks in the learning process when they feel confident comfortable and secure in their learning environment; therefore we look to employ educators who value building relationships and teaching social and emotional skills in addition to providing excellent academic instruction.
This middle school position entails teaching four sections of classes one elective and serving as a gradelevel advisor. This is a fulltime 10month faculty position that begins August 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design a comprehensive program of study aligned with the 5th12th curriculum tailored to meet students diverse needs interests and abilities.
- Deliver feedback to students and parents through diverse channels including progress reports conferences calls emails and individual meetings providing insightful comments and targeted guidance for improvement.
- Adjust teaching methods to accommodate students with identified learning differences adhering to outlined accommodations in Student Support Plans.
- Exhibit organizational skills creativity and a collaborative approach while working with colleagues from various curricular departments.
- Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to gauge student understanding.
- Attend a gradelevelspecific student retreat in the first semester.
- Attend an Intersession trip a gradelevel specific academic trip in the second semester.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned including supervision during lunch recess and carpool duties.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A collaborative and curious approach to teaching and learning
- A bachelors degree is required; a Masters degree is preferred
- At least two years of teaching experience preferred
- Experience as a student advisor is preferred
