Qualifications
High School diploma required. College diploma or degreepreferred. Experience with OR technical skill training may substitute
Some knowledge of surgical instrumentation supplies and equipment and its relationship to surgical procedures is preferred
Three to five years direct experience in procedure management and inventory control in a hospital/clinical environment
Shift
Involves large amounts of time walking and standing. Also involves routine lifting of heavy objects and pushing of case carts
Oncall responsibility
Exposure to the overall Operating Room environment is a requirement. Entering an Operating Room while a procedure is in progress is required
A strict dress code and professional appearance including wearing surgical scrubs is required
Occasional rotation to offshifts

General Overview
Reporting to OR Materials and within hospital and departmental guidelines the OR Resource Specialist will be responsible for the final coordination of all procedure related product and instrumentation. The OR Resource Specialist will act as direct link between the clinical Operating Room staff OR Materials Management and OR Sterile Processing to ensure that all instrumentation general and specialty supplies are available and delivered within specific timelines to the point of use. In addition the OR Resource Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and managing an inventory of service specific specialized surgical supplies.
Responsibilities
1. Acts as the central point of contact between the clinical Operating Room staff OR Materials Management and OR Sterile Processing to ensure that all instrumentation general and specialty supplies are available and delivered within specific timelines to the point of use
2. Works closely with the OR Clinical Nursing staff and monitors OR schedule on an ongoing basis to ensure availably of instrumentation and specialty supplies to support the daily OR schedule
3. Advises OR Clinical Nursing OR Materials Management and OR Sterile Processing of any potential problems or unusual incidents in relation to meeting supply needs or service demands
4. Responsible for procedure based case cart flow. Communicates any additions cancellations and changes to the OR procedure schedule to OR Clinical Nursing OR Materials and OR Sterile Processing
5. Responsible for Case Pick completion; core based specialty instrumentation and supplies
6. Communicates all issues relating to supply order status to OR Clinical Nursing staff and OR Materials Management
7. Maintains specialty product inventory for service specific areas. This includes inventory assessment and ordering utilizing eBuy and PeopleSoft
8. Coordinates with outside Sales Representatives the delivery of procedure specific implants instrumentation and supplies
9. Will as required provide coverage for other OR surgical services
10. Responsible for product returns to manufacturers/vendors and for the return of unused specialty products to the core inventory
11. Responsible for working on a daily basis with the OR Materials Director and Manger to ensure coordination integrity and stability of the OR Inventory as it relates to adding new items deleting items product increases volume increases product substitutions and backorders
12. Assists with departmental product recall process
13. Checks in specialty item orders from Receiving/Loading Dock verifying receipts against requests. Report discrepancies to manager
14. Continuously keeps specialty inventory holding areas wellstocked and organized including accurate labeling for easy identification
15. Maintains specialty order stock sheets and par levels
16. Stocks products using FIFO (First In First Outrotational) procedure to avoid stockpiling ensure sterility and date range of product
17. On a periodic basis and as requested inspects products for expiration date and package integrity to ensure sterility
18. Participates in internal department management meetings and will be responsible to gather facts run queries present documentation and perform other tasks related to the development of procedures or programs relating to inventory
19. Responsible for effective and efficient resolution of backorders whether by alternative sourcing or product substitution in collaboration with clinical leaders
20. Responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of the hospital based computer applications in relation to the position
21. Performs other duties as assigned
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Exceptional customer service and problem solving skills are essential
Requires a strong working knowledge of medical/surgical terminology
