TheApplications Specialist is considered a domain expert in McLeans clinicalsystems centered around but not limited to the Meditech platform and itsinterfaces to other hospital systems. S/he is expectedto develop a comprehensive understanding of clinicalworkflows at McLean and to be able to use this knowledge to support theconversion to the Epic system.
S/he ownsmultiple analysis support and/or project efforts of medium to high complexitybut is not necessarily a formal project manager for these efforts. S/heparticipates in and guides the design development testing trainingimplementation and ongoing support and maintenance of new and existingapplications and systems and often leads and organizes the work of otherresources.
TheApplications Specialist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary tomanage clinical/administrative data and systems independently accurately andeffectively with attention to detail and confidentiality. S/he performsthorough business process workflow systems and/or data analysis.
Manages ISinitiatives within the context of the larger environment including competingpriorities staffing levels budgetary concerns. Provides appropriate andtimely problem escalation reporting (and potential solutions if applicable) toIS and/or hospital management.
Demonstratesextensive knowledge of clinical workflow; incorporates into designimplementation support and enhancements of new and existing clinicalapplications.
Commonlypartners with Team Leader(s) and/or Project Manager(s) to drive project(s) tosuccessful completion leveraging indepth knowledge of the Clinical workflowsand Vendor applications that are used to provide the solution.
Acts as aworking partner with clinical user groups providing the communications neededto achieve project objectives. Provides excellent customer support;provides feedback to technical team as it relates to business requirements.
Withoutformal management responsibility routinely leads 5 or more resources onmultiple support/project/analysis efforts. Assigns/delegates assignmentsas appropriate. Provides direction and guidance to team members tofacilitate timely and quality results. Fosters a positive teamenvironment through leadership and mentoring.
Servesas escalation point for enduser issues if needed.
Translatesbusiness specifications to technical requirements.
Createsproject application workflow training and other types of documentation asneeded.
Independentlycreates executes and tracks progress on test plans.
Prepareswritten materials for use in presentations meetings and final projectdocumentation.
ProvidesOn call Support as needed.
Providesperformance evaluation feedback to the direct supervisor(s) of teammembers.
Pursuesopportunities for selfdevelopment.
Stayscurrent with industry trends as they relate to job responsibilities; able toincorporate impact of industry trends into how systems are designed testedimplemented and supported
Bachelors required or equivalent combination of education andexperience; advanced training in related field desired such as a nursing orpharmacist or advanced IT degree.
Maintains active membership in industryrelated regional ornational professional organizations for example HIMSS and /or PMI.
5 years of related analytical and systems support informaticsexperience.
Expert levelanalytical systems support informatics or technical domain knowledge.
Understandsthe flow of data through complex architecture; understands the consequencesthat erroneous data could have on patient care and/or revenue.
Able toidentify complex problems their probable causes their impact on operationsreport them to the appropriate parties offer possible solutions and decide onthe optimal course of action; able to independently and/or collaborativelybring problems to complete resolution.
Demonstratesextensive knowledge of business process and workflow and is able toincorporate into the support and enhancement of applications.
Exemplarywritten and verbal communication skills.
Can coordinateand complete multiple complex tasks to completion independently.
Able to provideuser support which includes but is not limited to direct user support duringposted support hours executing a backup plan for system downtimes andreporting/responding to user issues.

Able toselfmanage assuming full ownership of overall outcomes from start to finish.

Officeenvironment with local travel to other Partners sites; limited patient contact.
Offsitebeeper coverage for user support as assigned.
Must be ableto provide adequate transportation between work locations.
As projectsand priorities dictate must be available to work nonstandard business hourssuch as evenings nights weekends and holidays if/when necessary.
