Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently matriculated and enrolled in an entry level physical therapy degree program that is accredited by CAPTE.
- Successfully completed prerequisite coursework as required by the enrollment school to participate in their coop education program.
- While on active coop the rehab coop is considered in a student status. This student status is in accordance with state licensing regulations.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Must possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with all staff.
- Must possess decision making skills and entry level health care knowledge to effectively complete duties and responsibilities (up to 90 of work time).
- Work requires up to three months orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and hospital policies and procedures and the specific quality standards of care and competencies and procedures unique to the assigned job area.
- Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients (up to 50 of work time) rehabilitation team (up to 80 of work time) and patients families (up to 10 of work time).
- Demonstrates competence in all physical therapy interventions that have been delegated.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work requires prolonged walking and standing; lifting transferring and knowledge that carelessness could result in physical harm to the employee and/or others.
- Works with critically ill patients (up to 10 of work time) that may produce a high level of stress and mental fatigue.
- Works in hospital environments where there is some exposure to blood/body fluids/hazardous materials communicable diseases.
- Work requires use of sharp and/or electrical equipment (up to 20 which could result in cuts or burns with improper safety.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- Works with clinical supervisor to coordinate and oversee the volunteer aide program.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Works closely with the purchasing clerk to ensure adequate inventory control to reduce extra inventory.
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
- The coop aide is an individual who is currently enrolled in an entry level physical therapy degree program that is accredited by Certification and Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
- Their primary responsibilities are to assist all rehabilitation staff in the day to day operation of the service in accordance with State licensing regulations departmental standards and policies and accepted professional they are assigned to.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with inventory control with oversight by the Purchasing Clerk of the department.
- Responsible for the daily weekly and monthly maintenance and cleaning of rehabilitation equipment.
- Assists in greeting/escorting patients and facilitating smooth departmental flow of patients.
- Assists supervising therapist in patient care in accordance with state licensing regulations.
- Performs the duties of a secretary in which they have been oriented to in the absence of the administrative secretary and ambulatory practice secretaries.
- Under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist the coop rehab aide can perform those aspects of physical therapy intervention that they have completed coursework in and that the clinical supervisor has determined that they are competent in performing. (Only applies to the rehab aide coop when they are actively on a formal coop rotation).
- Completes other appropriate duties as assigned.
