Job Description

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs subjectspecific assessments etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Administers under supervision first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g toileting diapering etc. for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; students achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives expectations and/or goals (e.g. behavioral motor development and communication skills academic needs vocational abilities etc. for the purpose of providing feedback to students parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subjectspecific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Directs paraprofessionals and student teachers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Conduct case conferences (initial and annual) as required
  • Assist in the development of other components of students developmental health and social history as required
  • Provide inservice training and make recommendations for parents and support staff on special education issues
  • Complete DOErequired annual assessments (i.e. IAM ILEARN)
  • Create and implement Individual Education Programs for all students on your caseload
  • Attend and participate in special education staff meetings
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities sporting activities clubs and student organizations
  • Keep up to date with developments in the subject area teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Education
  • Valid Indiana Teacher License or Valid Out of State Teacher License
  • Relevant endorsement is required (eg Mild Disabilities and/or Intense etc.
