Collections Development Officer 7746 Temporary Contractuntil 31 March 2027 37 hours per week 30559 to 32654 per annum (Scale G) Dereham Cromer Norwich

The collections are central to all functions of Norfolk Museums Service. Maintaining high standards in the care of the collections is vital for the performance and longterm sustainability of the Service. The process of collections storage review and rationalisation together with information management are an integral part of managing the collections allowing resources to be focused on those collections that are core to the mission of Norfolk Museums Service and bring them to a wider audience.

This role is based at the Norfolk Museums Service Collections Centre at Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse 2 days per week at Cromer Museum on the North Norfolk Coast for 2 days per week and in the Norwich Castle Study Centre (Shirehall) 1 day per week

The Collections Development Officer will support the Collections Development Manager to deliver the Collections Development Project to schedule and on budget while maintaining the good reputation and Accredited Museum status of Norfolk Museums Service by assisting in:

  • The development of improved access to museum collections held in store
  • Improvements to the documentation of Norfolk Museums Service museum collections. To supervise trainees and volunteers to achieve this.
  • The processing of objects for rationalisation from initial selection to final change of use or ownership
  • The administration of the Collections Management Department
  • To support the Eastern Area Curator at Cromer Museum in ensuring the safety and security of the museum collections buildings and visitors
