Job Overview:
The Office of Public Instructions (OPI) has a biennial budget of over $2 billion which consists of an annual operating budget of over $35 million and over $900 million of flowthrough funds. The School Finance Division is responsible for the collection of school district reported financial transactions and the information necessary to account and report the operations of Montana public school districts. The Division is responsible for the implementation of Montana statutes and administrative rules including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and standards and compliance with the Federal Code of Regulations in alignment with US Department of Education guidelines.
The State Pupil Transportation Specialist position plans coordinates and directs the states funding program that provides over $11.9 million in transportation aid to K12 school districts which is maintained and functions through the webbased Pupil Transportation Reporting System. This position aids with pupil transportation safety represents the interests of the pupil transportation industry promotes school bus safety and efficiency. This position ensures state county and school district compliance with numerous comprehensive and complex state and federal laws regulations and policies governing pupil transportation.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Behaviors):
Required for the first day of work:
Knowledge of the concepts and theories of pupil transportation and school finance.
Knowledge of state and federal laws policies and guidelines governing pupil transportation and safety.
Knowledge of electronic systems and their application to the management of large fiscal programs.
Knowledge of programming
Working knowledge of personal computers software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Knowledge of basic accounting and auditing principles.
