Consults with and assists the physician in determining proper level of treatment; such determinations include establishing the number of xray beams to be employed in carrying out treatments angles of beams in relation to area to be treated possible effects of treatment upon organs of the body not undergoing treatment and rate of dose absorption in tissue.
Considers the interacting nature of all of these to advise concerning number of treatments and dosage per treatment.
Employs tables of values computer programs and phantom measurements necessitating mathematical and physical calculations.
Computes radiation dosimetry based upon physicians plan and determines dose distribution to various organs of the body; recommends safe and effective quantities of radioisotopes in nuclear medicine procedures considering variables of isotopes radioactive decay and absorption rate of particular organs.
Computes and recommends dosimetry for radiation sources in implanted surface mold and intracavitary treatment applications.
Recommends treatment time for radioactive sources and radiation beams considering radiobiological effects on patient.
Consults with and makes recommendations to physicians on the effective use of equipment and materials in conducting diagnostic examinations with xray and other imaging systems and materials.
Prepares and conducts lectures on the medical physics of beam radiation nuclear medicine and radioactive source therapy as part of the resident physician training program.
Instructs technicians in the theoretical and procedural aspects of radiation physics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
OPTION I: A Ph.D. in physics biophysics or medical physics from an accredited college or university with specialization in radiation physics.
OPTION II: A Masters degree in physics biophysics or medical physics from an accredited college or university with specialization in radiation physics and three years of professional experience in medical radiation physics including experience with diagnostic xray machines orthovoltage and supervoltage xray machines teletherapy units and radioisotopes.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
2 Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*In order to receive credit for the required degree and coursework you must include a legible copy of the degree and official transcripts(which shows proof of degree awarded)or official letter from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization at the time of filing or within seven 7 calendar days from the date of filing application.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information weighed 100.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70 or higher on this examination to be added to the eligible register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
Applications will be processed on anas receivedbasis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing gradein the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve 12 months following the date of promulgation.
No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve 12 months.
