Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law seeks applicants for a visiting assistant professor of the Veterans Legal Services Clinic to teach and direct one clinical program. This is a nontenuretrack position for one year with a possible extension for two additional years. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • J.D. from an ABAaccredited law school;

  • Admission to the practice of law and good standing in at least one state or the District of Columbia;

  • Admission to the Arkansas bar or capable of admission within one year of hiring;

  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Outstanding academic credentials;

  • Prior experience in either clinical teaching of law students or supervision of other attorneys.

Job Duties:

  • Teach and direct one Veterans Legal Services Clinic including clinic seminar;

  • Teach an additional course as needed;

  • Achieve teaching goals;

  • Screen and select clients for clinic representation;

  • Represent clients and manage clinic operations;

  • Supervise clinical students in work on client matters;

  • Collaborate with other supervising attorneys in the Bowen legal clinic;

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and practice law;

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in person in writing and through electronic means of communication;

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize data in decision making;

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students;

  • Demonstrated ability to advise students;

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and collaborate with colleagues;

  • Excellent interpersonal motivational and management skills;

  • Proficiency in using electronic casemanagement systems.
