Position Summary:
Adams State University is seeking a caring and selfmotivated individual with excellent communication skills and strong advising experience to advise students in an academic setting. A statesupported Hispanic Serving Institution in the beautiful San Luis Valley of southcentral Colorado Adams State University offers undergraduate majors minors and emphases as well as masters degree programs and a doctoral program. This environment fosters student engagement and individual attention helps students achieve their best.Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities):
Oversee and manager all major/minor/advisor assignments and changes including communicating changes to various departments
Proactively advise undergraduate students implementing targeted intervention strategies for those identified as not making Satisfactory Academic Progress. Collaborate with faculty and support services to develop individual success plans.
Serves as a liaison between academic advising and key campus offices (e.g. Registrars Office Admissions Financial Aid Student Support Services) to better serve students
Advises students for complex degree plans such as very prescribed STEM degrees or individualized interdisciplinary studies degrees
Refer advisees to other ASU resources as needed
Initiates retention contacts with advisees who are behind in registration for the subsequent semester
Participates and attends at minimum one department meeting per Fall and Spring semester for each assigned school as appropriate for supporting assigned students
Participates on Academic SOS committee
Assists Director of Academic Advising in verifying majors of newly admitted students and assigning appropriate advisors
Leads training to new and current advisors and facilitates workshops twice each semester during academic year
Supervises and mentors Student Success Center kiosk ambassadors
Serves as a Campus Security Authority as federally mandated under the Clery Act.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on department needs
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Advising Student Affairs or related field
Three years of academic advising experience
Knowledge of degree programs and corresponding career options
Understanding of educational requirements and advising processes
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated technology proficiency with various software applications
Strong organizational skills including an ability to multitask
Ability to work occasional flexible hours
Ability to work with diverse nontraditional and underserved student populations in a compassionate firm and structured manner.
Ability to treat others with respect civility and courtesy and to work honestly effectively and collegially with employees students and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.
Ability to perform with diplomacy confidentiality and professionalism.
Highly Preferred Qualification:
Bilingual English/Spanish.

Experience working in higher education as part of an academic team
Experience with student data systems such as Workday
Ability to perform above primary duties
