  • Job Title: TEAM Program Chair Special Education (Low Incidence Disabilities)
    Reports to: Executive Director of Special Education
    Terms and Conditions: 10 months 183day school year work calendar.
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Salary: Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement

    Qualifications:
    • Professional Educator License with LBS 1 endorsement; administrative endorsement preferred.
    • Extensive experience working with students with low incidence disabilities.
    • CPI certification or willingness to obtain and maintain certification.
    • Knowledge of IDEA state regulations and IEP processes.
    • Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
    • Experience with DLM assessments and datadriven decisionmaking.
    • Minimum 3 years experience in working with students with emotional behavioral and academic needs in the classroom.
    • Strong knowledge about the IDEA and the federal and state laws that govern working with students with disabilities.

    Position Summary:
    The Program Chair for Special Education TEAM program is responsible for overseeing the special education program for students with significant disabilities ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and supporting staff in delivering highquality instruction. This position involves professional development facilitation problemsolving collaboration crisis prevention intervention IEP leadership and ensuring appropriate staffing for extracurricular activities. Additionally the Program Chair will manage and implement DLM assessments and oversee transportation safety procedures.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Professional Development & Staff Support:
    • Develop and deliver professional development for special education staff to enhance instructional practices and compliance understanding.
    • Conduct regular meetings with teachers and paraprofessionals to problemsolve challenges and share best practices.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and support to staff working with students with low incidence disabilities.
    • Observe the professional day and maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
    • Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
    • Communicate openly with students staff parents and other stakeholders regarding students achievement and progress in the classroom.
    • Commit to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.
    • Provide a positive image of the high school within the community and the profession.
    • Work with TEAM teachers and families to educate and provide connections with outside agencies.

    Crisis Intervention & Safety:
    • Maintain current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and support staff in crisis situations.
    • Assist in implementing deescalation strategies and behavior intervention plans to maintain a safe learning environment.
    • Supervise morning and afternoon bus duty to ensure student safety during arrival and departure.

    IEP Process & Legal Compliance:
    • Serve as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
    • Ensure IEPs are legally compliant datadriven and designed to meet the individualized needs of students.
    • Collaborate and support case managers to ensure legally compliant IEPs.
    • Monitor and maintain proper documentation for compliance with state and federal special education laws.
    • To provide consultation regarding the IEP progress to teachers counselors and school staff.
    • To interface with Counselors Deans related service staff and Division Heads on students programmatic discipline and curricular matters.
    • To evaluate all teacher assistants and secretaries in the special education department.
    • To monitor program budget.
    • Be sensitive to physical and learning disabilities of students and take appropriate measures to assist them.
    • Promote student respect for the rights of others in the classroom.
    • Recognize safety and health hazards and work to eliminate them.

    Student Support & Extracurricular Inclusion:
    • Ensure students with low incidence disabilities have appropriate staffing support for participation in extracurricular activities.
    • Collaborate with general education and special education teams to promote inclusion in schoolwide events.

    Assessment & Program Management:
    • Manage and implement DLM assessments ensuring data is used effectively to inform instruction.
    • Analyze assessment results and collaborate with teachers to adjust curriculum and instruction accordingly.
    • Oversee program compliance effectiveness and alignment with best practices in special education.

    Work Environment:
    • Schoolbased setting with regular interaction with students teachers and administrators.
    • Occasional physical intervention required in crisis situations.
    • Flexible schedule to accommodate meetings professional development and school events.
