NYOS Charter School

Job Title: ACE Club/21st Century Enrichment and Engagement Counselor

Reports to: 21st Century Program Coordinator

Service days: Varies

NYOS an acronym for Not Your Ordinary School is an openenrollment public charter school with 2 campuses located in North Austin. NYOS provides a unique learning experience where all students strive for academic excellence in a closeknit community. We strive to build leaders to serve and succeed in a global society. NYOS encourages excellence through service learning brainbased teaching and low studentteacher ratios.

Primary Role:

Support the mission purpose and goals of the ACE afterschool program and create a safe and supportive environment where students can receive academic and enrichment opportunities during outofschool time. Ultimately all ACE activities focus on helping atrisk students meet state academic standards with a special emphasis on postsecondary education.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Elementaryage students is required.
  • Teaching experience and certification is preferred.

Professional Responsibilities and Duties:

Enrichment Strategies:

Counselors leading Enrichment courses will envision create plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate courses.

Enrichment courses should align to one of the following areas: math literacy science social studies writing STEAM Social & Emotional Learning Arts and Humanities Civic Engagement Leadership Financial Literacy College & Career Readiness and student areas of interest

Critical Steps for Enrichment Teachers

  • Transition students from classrooms to designated enrichment activity areas.
  • Prepare lesson plans and necessary materials daily for each activity.
  • Provide supervision for all students in the given activity including behavior management best practices that align with the school day discipline system.
  • Set up support and monitor student activity rotations including centers games recess snacks story time or Learning Lab. (Materials will be provided to counselors leading engagement activities)
  • Participate as required to ensure accurate reporting/tracking:
  1. Weekly Enrollment and Snack Report
  2. Monthly Activity Code Participation Report
  • Assist in snack counting inventory and distribution process as required.
  • Assist in student arrival transition and departure procedures.
  • Assist in special events and site cleanup daily.


Professional Requirements:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information concerning students parents staff and classroom incidents.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
  • Participate in approved professional development to improve skills related to job assignments.
  • Follow NYOS standard procedures for communication interaction and discipline as outlined in the NYOS Staff Handbook.

Work Environment: This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands: This position is very active and involves standing walking bending kneeling stooping crouching crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
