Job Description
Guardian Australia is part of Guardian News & Media (GNM) publisher oftheguardian.As a leading global media organisation we are renowned for our pioneering independent journalism and our awardwinning digital products.
We are seeking for a Live blogger/reporter to join The Guardians Editorial team to liveblog and report for Guardian Australias news desk.
This role is being offered on a fulltime permanent basis working over a sevenday roster with possible weekend work early starts and late finishes. This role is open to candidates based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
In this role you will
- Set up and anchor live blogs on setpiece or breaking news events as directed by news editors.
- Use reporting skills to verify developments and interview key players in live stories as well as write standalone news stories when required.
- Gather and contextualise contributions from Guardian correspondents in the field from inhouse analysts and external media outlets.
- Monitor external sources such as wire services other news organisations and social media for the latest developments and other relevant material including audio and video.
- Ensure live blog updates and news stories are accurate and in keeping with Guardian style tone and legal responsibilities.
- Engage with social media to promote stories and uncover information.

Knowledge and experience
- Experience of working on live news preferably on live blogging.
- Good understanding of Guardian live blogging style and format.
- Substantial experience of using social media tools and technologies.
- Excellent knowledge of national news and current affairs.
- Thorough understanding of media law.
- Able to generate ideas for news and investigations.
- Experience of writing news and features.
