This position is onsite at our beautiful Coral Gables campus (Coral Gables FL).
The Video Production Engineer position supports video technology use and maintenance needs for the Frost School of Music (FSOM). This needs include the use of such technology in our concert halls classrooms recording studios and faculty studios.
This person is responsible for technical design and troubleshooting for event and recorded productions as well as contributing to the maintenance configuration and design of multimedia production systems as it applies to FSOM operations.
The Video Production Engineer will leverage knowledge of existing systems and services as well as capabilities available in the marketplace to create the most effective solutions to meet the media and live event needs of the School. The candidate must use independent discretion and judgment to prioritize tasks and provide recommendations regarding issues. The Production Engineer will report to the Director of Production Services.
The position requires a high level of independent proficiency in setting up and operating audio and video production equipment for recording studios concert halls and other FSOM facilities. The individual will often work with students and must exhibit an ability to train and mentor volunteers of various skills levels and to interact with faculty and staff in reinforcing School policies practices and procedures. This position requires a flexible work schedule to accommodate coverage for evening and/or weekend productions and events.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Video Production Manager and Director of Production Services in audiovisual recording live streaming and broadcasting of concerts recitals and live events ensuring optimal video and audio quality.
- Operate Tricaster systems Blackmagic video switchers and other professionalgrade live production equipment to manage multicamera setups video switching graphics integration and live broadcasts. Ensure smooth transitions precise video switching and seamless integration of audiovisual elements
- Set up and implement redundancy systems for all critical broadcast equipment including backup signal paths redundant power supplies and failover protocols to ensure no disruption during live broadcasts.
- Provide ongoing maintenance support and hardware/software updates for all studio editing and recording systems; document equipment issues and software bugs addressing them promptly to minimize production downtime.
- Supervise train and mentor student engineers in live production settings guiding them in equipment setup troubleshooting and production techniques to ensure highquality audiovideo production for Frost School of Music events.
- Provide audiovisual technical assistance for FSOM programs classes and marketing platforms ensuring reliability and highquality live streaming and broadcast performance across multiple channels.
- Oversee the daytoday operation of production equipment in various media production facilities used by students faculty and staff ensuring consistent availability and performance for live and recorded productions.
- Export publish and distribute final audio/video content to broadcast web streaming social media and mobile platforms maintaining technical standards for each distribution method.
- Keep detailed records logs and transcripts of all production activities ensuring accurate documentation of equipment usage and production processes.
- Edit transcode and assemble final video/audio material for postproduction ensuring the content aligns with the productions intent while maintaining technical excellence.
- Work closely with the Production Services team to maintain and support all AV equipment across rehearsal halls classrooms faculty studios and multimedia labs ensuring all systems are ready for both live productions and educational purposes.
- Collaborate with FSOMs IT liaison to coordinate and optimize the integration of audio visual technologies across the institution enhancing workflow efficiency and live production readiness.
- Continuously assess production equipment and facilities to identify areas for improvement contributing technical and creative input to enhance production quality and teaching environments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned including oncall support during live events.
Skills and Abilities
- Indepth experience in live video production particularly with Tricaster systems and Blackmagic switchers for seamless switching and integration of live video feeds.
- Proficient in the setup operation and maintenance of PTZ cameras video routers audio mixers and live streaming platforms ensuring minimal downtime and highquality live broadcasts.
- Expertise in setting up redundancies for critical live production systems including backup switchers video/audio signal failover solutions and power redundancies guaranteeing continuous broadcast reliability.
- Advanced knowledge of industrystandard post production software such as DaVinci Resolve Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro with a strong focus on live production workflows and content editing for broadcast.
- Handson experience with video projection mapping and its integration into live performances and broadcast events.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues during live broadcasts proactively addressing equipment malfunctions and implementing backup systems to avoid disruptions.
- Strong understanding of both Apple and Windows operating systems ensuring compatibility and smooth operation across all live production systems.
- Basic understanding of audio recording amplification and mixing techniques with a focus on live event requirements.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple live production elements simultaneously while maintaining an efficient workflow under pressure.
- Ability to mentor and guide student engineers ensuring their success in a highpressure live broadcast environment.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal with a proven ability to provide clear and concise technical support during live productions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent with completion of a 1year program of study from a vocational/technical school.
- At least 2 years of direct experience in live production including operation of Tricaster Blackmagic switchers and managing redundant systems in live broadcast environments. Relevant education certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
- Bachelors degree preferred in Information Technology Engineering Information Systems or a related field.
- Extensive familiarity with live video recording broadcast equipment and live streaming technologies.
- Strong knowledge of production scheduling troubleshooting and system setup with an emphasis on creating redundancy systems to ensure no disruptions in live broadcast operations.
- Excellent problemsolving skills especially in fastpaced environments where quick action is required to resolve technical issues during live events.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to effectively work in a teamoriented and fastpaced environment.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaborate effectively within a team.
- Ability to lift at least 4050 lbs and stand for extended periods when required for production setup and equipment maintenance.
