General Overview/Summary
Plans evaluates and implements network security and risk mitigation strategies. Configures and deploys physical network components (firewalls Intrusion detection systems user tracking etc.. Provides escalated incident handling of Network security events. When necessary monitors the Network Security work request and incident queue through a computerized tracking system and assumes (or delegates to other team members) responsibility for incoming requests. Troubleshoots and corrects problems with network security devices. Recommends changes to network systems operating procedures to maximize network security.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Corporate Manager of Network Security provides highly skilled technical support to inhouse IS staff user departments and thirdparty liaisons.
Configures deploys manages and maintains security equipment and related spplications and platforms throughout the PHS network.
Monitors network security by analyzing Intrusion Detection reports firewall logs and other sources.
Maintains an understanding of current issues in the realm of network security. Monitors security bulletins and alerts from all Partners network system vendors.
Evaluates vulnerability impact and formulates and executes risk mitigation plans. Responds to network security incidents.
Works along with resource owners during and after security breaches recommends best practices and assesses the scope of damage and risk to vital network resources.
Provides consulting services at the highest technical level for remote hospital sites; works with various IS departments to ensure the best possible balance between security and usability.
Provides complex project implementation of major security initiatives. Assists with selection of key security technologies and designs.
Participates in after hours and weekend work to perform tasks that cannot be done during business hours.
Participates in Information Security Team on call rotation to troubleshoot major network system issues. Carries pager and cell phone 24x7.
Performs other duties as required.

Bachelors degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
5 years experience with networking and internetworking devices and software including at least two years experience with large missioncritical internetworks.
Proven technical abilities administering and deploying multiple host operating systems including Microsoft Windows Linux and Solaris.
Experience with Apple operating systems is desirable.
Experience with security technologies.
Customer service skills are essential.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
Demonstrated ability to deploy and maintain network security equipment.
Demonstrated proficiency in system deployment and administration.
Excellent analytic and reasoning skills particularly in solving large complex problems.
Ability to assume high levels of responsibility and to work with a minimum of daytoday supervision.
Ability to function as a member of the network security team and to work collaboratively with multiple institutions departments and technical operations staffs across multiple facilities.
Knowledge of the following Technologies: Network protocols with strong emphasis on TCP/IP; Unix and Microsoft operating systems; Information Security practices; Firewalls and Intrusion Detection
