Description
Position Summary:
The Coach of the Iona Dance Team will teach oversee and direct the practices and game day performances of the Dance Team. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Performing Arts the coach will work in conjunction with the Student Performing Arts & Spirit department and the student club of the Iona Dance Team to provide an entertaining and premierlevel collegiate atmosphere for Iona Universitys mens and womens basketball home games. Working as a Cohesive unit with Performing Arts administrative staff to assist in recruitment of incoming students and retention of current students as well as direct management of the Iona University Dance Team within the philosophy and guidelines set forth by Iona University.
* Please note: This is parttime stipend position (no benefits) with a term appointment for the upcomingacademic year. The position is renewable annually pending a favorable review.
Primary Duties:
- Choreograph and coach the Dance Team for all Iona mens and womens basketball home game (approximately 26 games);
- Ensure the team maintains 2030 members for all mens and womens basketball games with an emphasis on student performers;
- Actively recruit new members including high school outreach campus events and collaboration with Admissions and Performing Arts staff;
- Manage dance team appearance requests both oncampus and within the community;
- Schedule organize and conduct weekly practices and season schedule;
- Assist with enrollment engagement and retention initiatives
- Plan coordinate and schedule tryouts to select new dance team members;
- Assist with the development growth and utilization of the dance team budget
- Facilitate successful participation at UDA Camps Competitions and UDA National Championships
- Plan and organize choreography registration and bookings for UDA Collegiate Nationals;
- To be knowledgeable of and uphold Iona University NCAA MAAC UDA rules and regulations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Fundraise a designated amount to be budget sustaining;
- Work with Director of Performing Arts to hire professionals (if necessary);
- Monitor and maintain student records in Gaels360 and respond to alerts and requests for information.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience dancing/coaching/choreographing at a professional and/or collegiate level.
- Ability to attend all Iona mens and womens basketball home games.
- Ability to travel to all Iona mens and womens basketball postseason games.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Able to provide leadership and serve as a role model for the team.
