Excellent communication and writing skills and experience writing fundraising materials required. High level volunteer engagement and management aptitude preferred. Bring a history of growing in an organization and the ability to be a longterm valueadded member of the Massachusetts General Hospitals Development team. Proven experience within a complex institution preferably an academic medical center or university. A collegial team player with a proven ability to motivate engage and work collaboratively at all levels with prospects donors volunteers leadership and senior members of the medical staff or similar constituencies. An entrepreneurial and strategic thinker with a strong work ethic who can manage multiple projects effectively evaluate problems and display sound confidential judgment. An even disposition and the ability to deal effectively and politely with people from all types of backgrounds and experiences in all types of situations. Be highly professional and able to listen carefully as well as to influence and persuade others. Be honest trustworthy and abide by strict confidentiality guidelines. Be highly organized detail oriented and efficient. Maintain a professional and considerate demeanor and have a strong work ethic. Be motivated to learn and display flexibility in a changing environment. Candidate should be focused on their individual objectives and on the overall teams goal. Proficient in Raisers Edge strongly preferred.

Position Overview
The Director of Development is a midlevel fundraising position within the Mass General Development Office.Reporting to the Senior Managing Director and working in a team of seventeen fundraising professionals the Director of Development Major Gifts is responsible for major gifts fundraising for selected beats within the Cancer Center and other clinical areas in the hospital partnering with hospital leadership faculty researchers and administrators to achieve assigned fundraising goals.Limited travel throughout the year may be required.The Director is an ambassador of the office and is empowered to represent development at the hospital with minimal guidance from his/her supervisor within the context of his/her functional responsibilities.The ideal candidate will be a collegial team player with a proven ability to motivate engage and work collaboratively at all levels with prospects donors volunteers leadership and senior members of the medical staff or similar constituencies. Build a prospect pipeline and actively manage a portfolio of about 140 prospects and donors at the $250K or higher level to build and maintain a prospect and donor base for assigned clinical areas. This includes: formulate and document development strategies follow agreed upon targets for prospect activity and fundraising outcomes implements moves management appropriate to qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship with minimal guidance from supervisor and fully document fundraising and donor work in Raisers Edge. Successfully solicit and close gifts (outright life income bequests and gifts of assets) working with Hospital leadership and senior staff as appropriate. Collaborate with colleagues across teams to achieve program and fundraising goals. Work with prospects to develop and steward the relationship to and connection with the hospital ultimately leveraging that relationship to maximize philanthropic giving. Create maintain and strengthen relationships with vice presidents volunteer leaders chiefs/physicians researchers and administrative directors. Provide oversight and management of several diverse fundraising programs. Develop an understanding of the breadth of research clinical teaching and community service programs of the Mass General Cancer Center and related service lines. Recommend strategic activities/collateral for assigned fundraising program (s) with minimal guidance from supervisor. Create and maintain a menu of giving opportunities for assigned areas and write case statements and proposals as needed. Prepare and regularly update progress reports.
