Associate General Counsel
TIAA seeks an experienced insurance law attorney to join our Law Department as a lawyer supporting insurance product development and management for our institutional retirement and retail businesses.
This attorney will join a team responsible for providing legal advice in connection with the design and implementation of fixed annuities stable value products funding agreements and other insurance products and services for defined contribution retirement plans and retail markets.
This attorney will work on new product development insurance contracts and other filings with state insurance departments; support a broad range of insurance law matters relating to the sound and prudent business operations of an insurer including market conduct licensing advertising insurance & annuity products treatment of policyholders and claimants filing requirements compensation and compliance with relevant regulations; provide legal support for marketing and sales; and track new laws and regulations and other regulatory developments.

Required Experience:
5 years of experience practicing law in a major law firm a regulator or inhouse legal department with a focus on insurance products to include in depth knowledge of insurance regulations impacting annuity and insurance contracts that fund retirement plans and with insurance rules and filing requirements required.
JD degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of state bar is required
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with Internal Revenue Code ERISA and related regulations impacting retirement plans is preferred.
Experience with variable annuities.
Familiarity with reinsurance.
Familiarity with pension risk transfers.

Base Pay Range: $162700/yr. $245000/yr.Actual base salary may vary based upon but not limited to relevant experience time in role base salary of internal peers prior performance business sector and geographic location. In addition to base salary the competitive compensation package may include depending on the role participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example annual discretionary incentive programs nonannual sales incentive plans or other nonannual incentive plans).
