We are looking for an experienced creditor side bankruptcy/insolvency attorney with both transactional and litigation experience who is comfortable working independently multi-tasking and thinking on their feet on all aspects of bankruptcy/insolvency law. The incumbent will primarily be responsible for counseling the company (including its Single Family Multifamily and Investment & Capital Markets divisions) and representing its interests in sophisticated bankruptcy and insolvency matters complex commercial litigation collection activity receiverships and other financial concerns.

The Legal Division is committed to providing quality proactive and timely advice and representation responsive to client needs on a variety of matters affecting Freddie Mac.
In your role as an attorney on the Litigation & Asset Resolution Team you will:
Advise internal clients on legal risks relating to the companys business particularly those relating to bankruptcy insolvencies complex commercial litigation receiverships and other financial concerns;
Actively manage outside counsel and drive case strategy (and where applicable represent and appear on behalf of Freddie Mac in bankruptcy/insolvency receivership and similar proceedings);
Participate in the drafting of complex agreements and other documents that protect the companys interests in potential bankruptcies insolvencies and receiverships;
Conduct legal research as needed;
Understand Freddie Macs business particularly its Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guide (including knowledge of the representations warranties covenants and legal remedies) Multifamily Seller/Servicer Guide and various other agreements as may be required or assigned;
Work closely with other departments within the Legal Division to advise clients on bankruptcy- and insolvency-specific issues;
Set policy as to the Companys response to bankruptcies insolvencies and FDIC or other receiverships.
Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Membership in good standing in a state Bar
Typically 10 years relevant experience with a top tier law firm or in-house at a bank financial or other institution with a sophisticated real estate and investment portfolio
The incumbent should have experience working on true sale and substantive non-consolidation opinions (or have litigated such issues previously) and experience litigating or otherwise applying the safe harbor provisions of the Bankruptcy Code as applied to complex transactions and/or structured financings of a high dollar value.
The incumbent should have experience representing large financial institutions in bankruptcy proceedings and complex adversary proceedings for claims with a high dollar-value (including a deep familiarity with section 363 sales and section 365 assumption/assignment issues as well as with secured lending/UCC issues).
Must be comfortable regularly advising senior-level management.
Experience with non-bank servicer chapter 11 bankruptcies chapters 7 12 and 13 bankruptcies FDIC receiverships and insurance insolvencies are a plus.
Experience with the secondary mortgage market commercial real estate transactions and Freddie Macs Single Family and Multifamily businesses are also a plus.
Excellent analytical strategic legal research oral and written communications and advocacy skills;
Self-motivation ability to handle pressure with grace dedication to learning and creative problem-solving skills;
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues and effectively deliver legal advice to non-lawyers;
Ability to effectively manage numerous issues across multiple areas and set priorities independently;
Intellectual curiosity;

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $224000 - $336000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position experience skill set internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.Required Experience:
