The Ophthalmic Assistant provides diagnostic information and clinical data in the ophthalmic exam to the physician who is treating the patient. They are responsible for carrying out patientoriented procedures under the supervision of department supervisor or nurse manager ophthalmologist or optometrist.
Provides care that meets the psychosocial physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family. The assistant is responsible for adhering to all departmental policies and procedures. Travel may be required at regional sites as directed
High school graduate or equivalent. Direct patient healthcare experience preferred. One year eye care assistance experience preferred. Job Specifications: Strong communication and organization skills and the ability to function in a highpaced multispecialty Ophthalmology Department. Basic computer knowledge is required and must be capable of learning new computer skills and adapting to the Electronic Environment on an ongoing basis. Current BLS certification or must obtain within six months of hire.
Required upon hire or within 2 years to obtain through JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Association (COA) Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
