Qualifications: BS (preferred degree in Computer Science or equivalent though all candidates with strong computer skills will be considered)
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
Working knowledge of Windows is essential additional knowledge of Linux operating systems is highly desired
Experience executing scripts (Shell Perl Tcl and python) is strongly desired but not essential
GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Surgical Planning Laboratory (SPL) and the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Womens Hospital are an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists software engineers genetic epidemiologists and medical investigators who develop computational tools for the analysis quantification and phenotyping of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). COPD is an umbrella term for smoking related diseases of the lung such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. This multidisciplinary group seeks to develop and validate imagebased biomarkers of disease for epidemiologic genetic and therapeutic investigation.
We are seeking applications for a research assistant position. The successful applicant will be working alongside a team of software engineers pulmonologists and genetics researchers that are investigating COPD and related lung conditions. The research assistant will assist team members with phenotype generation software development and website design.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The research assistant will assist team members with project coordination data management. He or she will run inhouse software programs on a large number (hundreds to thousands) of datasets to extract new phenotypes. The successful applicant will work with the computer scientist and software developers to develop implementation strategies to meet the needs of the clinical team members. Additionally he or she will design and implement strategies to manage data flow and automate repetitive analysis tasks.
Duties:
Maintain and update data repositories (image files and derived data files)
Assist colleagues with project tasks by facilitating data transfer and management
Use software tools (Slicer and inhouse programs) to assist with data analysis and processing
Assist the team with website design and creation
