About the role:
The Assistant Director facilitates the enrollment of international students at the University. The position manages immigrationrelated aspects of the admissions process for international students including processing immigration documents related to admission and enrollment and advising academic departments and incoming students. The Assistant Director supports the Form I20 issuance process for new students while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and reporting requirements.The Assistant Director also serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F1 visa student program.
Core Job Functions:
Evaluate immigration documents for the Form I20 issuance process for new students while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and reporting requirements.
Completes deadlinedriven assignments requiring the collection of data and enters data into electronic databases such as ISSM which interfaces with the U.S Department of Homeland Securitys (DHS) and U.S. Department of States Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) the U.S. governments electronic database and tracking system for international students and dependents in F1 status.
Performs clerical and administrative functions which include Word processing to produce and edit documents and reports operating electronic mail and databases maintaining confidential information entering data and maintaining departmental records and shared files. In addition prepare Form I20 issuance cycle for Summer Fall and Spring: Update forms departmental contact information materials and ISSM templates.
Work closely with the Undergraduate Admission Operations team and Graduate departments to provide information guidance and training related to Initial Form I20 Request and issuance.
Issue initial attendance Form I20 for all prospective undergraduate graduate law and medical program students.
Provide guidance on federal immigration regulations and assistance in resolving complex problems concerning immigration status and compliance for new incoming students.
Review analyze and remain current on federal regulations and procedures affecting international students.
Provide prearrival information for international students.
Assist with developing professional written materials and website content to inform international students.
Prepare statistical data and information on international students for multiple uses throughout the University and externally including analysis and research.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Provide support during oncampus admission events e.g. open houses admitted student events scholarship weekend).
At selected times of the academic year rotate with other counselors to serve as Admission Officer of the Day e.g. meet with walkin visitors handle phone calls and give presentations to guests).
During the fall semester as the first reader evaluate undergraduate applications for admission based on the Universitys recruiting goals and standards.
Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of the Office of Undergraduate Admission
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies and procedures.
Knowledge of ISSM a webbased case management system that allows schools to interface with SEVIS electronically is preferred.
Knowledge of U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State documents and procedures related to F1 immigration statuses is preferred.
Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
Ability to organize prioritize and manage projects from inception to completion with strong attention to detail and minimal supervision.
Ability to accurately verify data from various sources and correctly input it into databases with a strong focus on detail maintaining a consistent and efficient data entry speed.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel Word and PowerPoint.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
Bachelors degree in Higher Education International Affairs Counseling or a related field is . Masters degree preferred.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or work experience may be considered.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
Minimum one year of experience; two years of related experience preferred. Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) advising F1 international students on immigration matters strongly preferred.
Prior work experience in a university setting is preferred.
