Position Summary
This civilian position serves as the first line of contact between the Police Department and citizens who come to the front lobby of the station or who contact the Department via telephone or electronic device seeking policerelated information and/or services. Also serves as the primary handler and custodian of many Department records and is responsible for data entry data storage the dissemination of information and the fulfillment of records requests.
Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities
- Greets the public to answer questions and provide information. Enters information into report database; receives reviews and processes records for requests for reports discovery open records and expungement orders. Sorts and distributes interoffice mail and messages to officers and employees; serves arrest warrants via fax; collects and processes bond payments by cash or credit card; maintains and processes impoundment notices as well as quarterly tow company audits; inspects and installs child safety seats; maintains supplies such as hard copy forms for reports and safety seats; submits reports to District Attorneys office for onview charging; enters outside jurisdiction arrests for Lenexa charges into report database; maintains dispositions from all arrests; submits all completed accident reports to the state; processes background checks; and performs NCIC control validations.
- Completes walkin phonein and emailgenerated police offense reports and motor vehicle accident reports by interviewing the individual making the report taking photographs gathering necessary documentation booking evidence into property and issuing traffic citations as necessary.
- Assists in the booking process as necessary (prisoner searches fingerprinting photographing); monitors police radio transmissions and provides assistance as requested; testifies in court; answers phone calls; verifies and records fixable citations; monitors facility security and performs building checks of the entire complex; maintains and updates logs to ensure report dissemination is in compliance with KBI standards; and trains newly hired employees.
- Fingerprints and photographs all City security guard applications applicants certain arrestees and subjects for Municipal Court.
Qualifications
Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
- Available to work rotating shifts; (days evenings and midnights); including weekends and holidays.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with the public in a variety of situations.
Hiring Range
Hiring range is $22.74 $25.60 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. This is an hourly nonexempt position.
This position is also eligible to receive the following:
- $1300 annual $50.00 per pay period secondary language stipend for those who pass a City of Lenexa proctored oral speaking proficiency test.
- Shift differential Evening shift $.75 per hour and Night shift $1.00 per hour.
- Tuition reimbursement $4500 annual; $25000 total lifetime reimbursement.
