Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Working very independently under very general supervision executes protocols involving a variety of routine and nonroutine experiments at a professional level. May identify new techniques. Develops modification of existing techniques as appropriate. In collaboration with other members of the research team gives input to the development of design protocols.Calculates transcribes and analyzes data using statistical techniques. May be responsible for orienting and training new staff. May serve in a supervisory role in smaller lab.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The successful candidate will design and independently perform bench level experiments and small projects that support the overall research objective of an integrative computational and experimental lab in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Job tasks will include but are not limited to cloning expression constructs and Cas9/CRISPRbased targeting constructs followed by transfecting validated plasmids into mouse hematopoietic stem cell lines; measuring functions of lines derived from these transfections; maintaining these cells in our tissue culture facility along with providing assistance in maintaining other cell lines. Functional assays will include but are not limited to RNA Antisense Purification flow cytometry and RNA immunoprecipitation. In addition techniques including but not limited to qPCR immunostaining and functional readouts will be required for quality control assessment.
- The candidate will interact directly with senior members of the research team and lab head to ensure proper experimental design analysis and technical concerns related to the project. The candidate will adapt easily to changing needs and priorities facilitate project completion provide lab support and organizational needs address technical problems and summarize and present results. Training will be provided as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in biological/physical science
- A minimum degree of B.S. with at least 1 year of experience in a biomedical/molecular biology laboratory setting.
- Experience in cell culture (transfections Lentivirus Retrovirus CRISPR/Cas9 system) and histology techniques (immunohistochemistry sectioning).
- Strong skills in cell and molecular biology techniques including gel electrophoresis PCR ChIP RTPCR ELISA and immunoblot.
- Experience with handling rodents taking biological samples genotyping dissections simple injections.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be a strong team player and work well in group problemsolving situations.
- Detail oriented critical thinking in documenting organization skills analyzing interpretation and reporting data.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
High degree of computer literacy.
Sound analytical and organizational skills.
Requires good oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.
Ability to identify potential problems and troubleshoot solutions.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically present it.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Each area should include working conditions specific to position. Please also include any specific physical requirements lifting bending etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for training and orienting new staff. May serve as a team leader or supervisor in a smaller research setting.
