Job Description

Restricted Substitute Teachers Must have an ASSOCIATE DEGREE.

POSITION:Elementary Teacher

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:Building Principal

FLSASTATUS:Exempt

EVALUATION:Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor andin accordance withWV State Code 18A212 WV State Board Policy 5310 and JCBOE Evaluation Policy

JOB SUMMARY:Provide appropriate instruction to elementary students and ensure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:Jefferson County Schools is bound by statute to recommend the most qualified applicants for position vacancies. In order to determine those qualifications as set forth by the West Virginia Code we require all applicants to fill out an application which includes references and in many instances participate in interviews. MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for planning implementing and assessing Jefferson County Schools curriculum based on WV Content Standards and Objectives
  • Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs
  • Responsible for implementing 21ST Century technology skills
  • Responsible for planning and implementing inclusion with special education students
  • May be responsible for planning & implementing designated cocurricular activities and/or programs at the school such as curricular fairs awards programs and field trips
  • Responsible for administering approved formative and/or summative assessments
  • Responsible for planning and implementing tiered instruction for reading and math
  • Addresses and implements students IEPs and 504 Plans and recommends revisions when needed
  • Adheres to JCS Grading and Achievement Policy
  • Strong working/communication skills and collaboration with students parents and peers to promote and support student learning
  • May direct/support the work of aides student teachers and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment
  • Fosters a safe and supportive classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Meets professional responsibilities.
  • Maintains professional work habits and adheres to the Teacher Code of Conduct.
  • Willing to implement any other programs designated by Principal for school improvement
  • Includes supervisory and/or other duties as assigned by Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels pursuant to WV Code 18A32; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18515c and/or 18A310 as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code 18A32a.

JOB SUMMARY:Provides appropriate instruction learning activities and experiences that ensure all students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content and grade level.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for planning and implementing WV content standards and highquality secondary learning objectives instructing students using effective instructional strategies and providing appropriate learning experiences with high expectations for all.

  • Coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance behavior and other issues.

  • Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse illegal harassment breaches of ethics or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware.
