Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Medical Assistant at Brigham and Womens at Newton Corner will be a valued member of our health care team.
You will perform all functions necessary for the complete care and efficient management of patients through the ambulatory facility and the community that we serve under the supervision of the Practice Manager including supporting the organizations mission and values by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence and competence collaboration innovation respect personalization commitment and accountability and ownership.
Also to assist patients and families with needs or problems relevant to their visit to the physicians and other licensed clinical staff with procedures treatments and/or instructions to the patient.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively and efficiently mange the flow of patients through the practice
Previsit chart preparation and information gathering to optimize the visit
Assist providers with medical histories including documenting in electronic health record
Check vital signs
Update computerized reminders
perform point of care testing Actively communicate with patients to set expectations i.e. wait times what to expect during visit
Manage room cleaning stocking setup and turnover
Medication management including preparing refills and prior authorizations for physicians
Participation in proactive population management of chronic disease by generating emails and letters and calling patients
Tracking of test results
Participate in team meetings
Participate in process improvement groups Assist coworkers in their duties (within the limitations of training and scope of practice)
maintains professional relationship with physicians and other teammates
phlebotomy
Accurately utilizes all equipment and supplies
All other duties as prescribed to maintain Patient Centered Medical Home
HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:Works within legal regulatory accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and Partners policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or Partners as appropriate; brings potential matters of noncompliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff. Day Shift
QUALIFICATIONS:
May not currently hold a valid nursing license.Bachelor degree a plus but not required High School diploma or equivalent required Graduate of Medical Assistant training program required

SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Work requires completion of a competencybased orientation and continuous development in basic patient care technique and procedures.
