The position requires a minimum of 35 years experience in fundraising or related transferable experience and a Bachelors degree.
Also the ideal candidate will possess the following skills abilities and competencies:
  • Experience with management of high level volunteer groups within an events context strongly preferred.
  • A comprehensive understanding of leadership volunteer groups management preferably in academic medical centers.
  • Proven ability to motivate engage and work with prospects donors volunteers and senior staff or similar constituencies.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a large complex dynamic and sophisticated organization.
  • A strong sense of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to be focused and to achieve established goals.
  • Experience in writing fundraising materials and devising sophisticated cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage expectations; a high level of initiative and energy.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of Major Gifts fundraising principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of healthcare field and of Massachusetts General Hospital and the Partners Healthcare System desired.
  • Collegial attitude and commitment to the mission of MGH.
  • Computer literacy and experience with Windows and databases required.

Massachusetts General Hospital seeks a dynamic professional to join the Development Office to manage all activities related to volunteer groups for the Cancer Center such as the Friends of the Mass General Cancer Center and the one hundred committee.
Working under the guidance of a Director of Development the Assistant Director of Volunteer Activities Cancer Center will work with the Director to develop strategies goals and objectives that succeed in achieving member satisfaction with their involvement at the Mass General Cancer Center and identify and recruit appropriate membership. S/he will serve as the point person for volunteer groups and subcommittees working closely with the Special Events staff in the coordination of related events. Additionally s/he will be responsible for the management of all logistics around the volunteers including meeting facilitation and individual and corporate sponsorship solicitations.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and collegial team player with proven ability to motivate engage and work with prospects donors volunteers and senior staff or similar constituencies preferably in academic medical centers. Additionally this role requires exceptional attention to detail creativity to implement process improvements strong organizational skills a proactive approach and to enjoy working in a fastpaced teamoriented environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the team to manage and recruit new committee members with the goal of developing and leveraging individual relationships that enable the hospital to expand each committees philanthropic network.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with volunteers and handle all logistics related to these meetings.
  • Identify and recruit appropriate members to all volunteer programs.
  • Partner with the Director major gifts team and Corporate and Foundation Relations to build a pipeline for corporate and individual sponsorships for all volunteer programs.
  • Manage all activities involving the Friends of the MGH Cancer Center the one hundred committee and other volunteer groups including:
    • Coordinate schedule manage and facilitate all committee meetings and work with colleagues to identify new committee members.
    • Support committee members in their fundraising efforts including individual and corporate solicitations.
    • Actively participate in fundraising meetings related to the areas under her/his purview and elsewhere in the department.
    • Partner with colleagues to build and manage a pipeline for midsized corporate and individual sponsorships.
    • Working with the Director of Corporate Relations and the Special Events team identify and pursue areas of revenue opportunities for the one hundred.
    • Execute yearend renewal and acquisition mailings as appropriate.
    • Assist with executing communications and stewardship activities for committees individual and corporate sponsors.
  • Manage relationships with community fundraisers and staff their initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects currently holding volunteer positions with the MGH Cancer Center who are generally at the $50K level.
  • Support major gift fundraising programs as needed.
  • Take on special projects for the Cancer Centers development program as they arise.
